I got an email from UCLA inviting me to apply for some alumini scholarships. Does everybody get this email or does it actually mean something?

i would like to know the same too!

Every applicant gets them.

I got it too. According to this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/450552-4-15k-ucla-alumni-scholarship.html

they only notified top applicants, though everyone can apply, but that could have changed since.

Yea, not everyone gets it. xD I had no clue about that until it was waaay too late. I guess it sucks being average (or below >o>) at UCLA.

i got the email too! hopefully it means good things are to come?

wait, are you guys talking about this email?

"Congratulations!

You have met the 3.5 minimum grade-point average and
financial need requirement to be considered for one of several
scholarships available to academically meritorious UCLA students
for the 2010-11 academic year."

3.5 doesnt sound like everyone…

^ That’s the reason why they were sent? Man, it seems like UCLA always screws me over with their emails. Heck, I still get emails telling me to do a new transfer student survey. -__-

No, mine mentioned nothing about having 3.5 (my actual GPA is around 4.6, so hopefully that’s enough for some kind of scholarship, or even to get in).

My email mentioned nothing about GPA, just leadership and community service (my GPA is somewhere around a 3.9).

I’m wondering the same thing. I know my brother ( who got rejected from UCLA but into Berkeley… grad HS in '08) said he didn’t receive one from UCLA, but from Berkeley. So maybe they don’t send it to everyone?

ohhh… are you guys entering freshmen? I’m sorry, my email was for continuing students, so thats 3.5 UCLA gpa

lol

I got the email for entering freshmen as well. I think they send it to applicants with high gpas.

I don’t think it is for financial need b/c I got one and I’m 1,000,000+, maybe for our leadership?

i got one too. i have a question: do you think its bad if i got the email and i dont apply? i started to and i created an account on their alumni site, but then i realized it requires recs, and i really dont want to have to ask me teachers for more recs. do you think the adimmisions people will know if i dont apply and will that look bad?

I didn’t apply for alumni scholarships at either UCLA or UC Berkeley (after starting the application for both) and I got into both.

Try not to be paranoid about this type of thing.

i received the 3.5 gpa scholarship email too, but some of my friends didn’t. so no, not everyone gets it.

i have a 4.0 nonweighted and i didnt get it, does that mean im sheet out of luck?

No, anyone can apply…

but does it mean that they didn’t like my application/ i’m not in? has anyone who hasn’t gotten the email actually gotten into the school?
