I was wondering since alumni isnt supposed to be taken into consideration during the review process, do you still think they do it?

Everyone I have talked to about it says that alumni at tamu is still a HUGE thing even though its not suppose to be...

Does anyone know of an Aggie Alumni who has been denied?
Because I have yet met one?

The information would be useful and helpful, thanks!

I think the concept of a "legacy" was outlawed for reasons of Affirmative Action around the year 2000, in an attempt to diversify and equalize the admissions to State Universities. I think private colleges still can and do have a Legacy admission.

Knowing there was no Legacy admissions at A&M I was surprised to see the question on the application.... That being said, I do know a student who was denied admission to A&M - even though a parent was a former student. This student did not meet the admissions criteria for A&M, they did not have the grades.

I was wondering if about this time is when the top 10% admission came into play... which seems equally wrong to me. Wrong because Texas High Schools do not weigh all classes and all AP classes in the same way. Some High Schools in Texas do not weigh AP/Dual credit classes to encourage students to take the more challenging courses - so students avoid the harder courses to keep their top 10% status.

yes i understand that it was "outlawed" thats why I was asking. It was on the application and everyone keeps telling me its still a big deal!?

my grades are averagee?
scores are a little below average?
and I have really good ECs, Leadership, & Alumni letters.

Plus Alumni, and multiple generations of Alumni.

Did you get accepted?

My friends son did not. His was in Low 2nd quarter (top 50% of his class) Act 22, not sure about SAT's. He was big in FFA - which is why his grades were low. showed pigs/steers in local/regional/state stock shows and did well in all of them. He is going the Blinn route - TAPP, not Blinn team. He will be an Aggie sophomore year!

I was told by the TAMU admissions center in Arlington, and the admissions counselor at College Station that there is no weight in the questions... however you have to wonder, surely it would make a difference if they were having to choose between two identical students.

Has your friends son already heard he was denied admission of A & M?

Im in revieww.
I have a million good things.
My rank is in the 30%

So i'm just waiting it out. ahhh.

He is at Blinn now. Denied last year.

Best of luck tigger19. A million good things are very good things....
I know the wait is very hard for you. Don't get upset if you do not hear until mid April, and maybe even May. Someone I know got accepted just a few days before graduation last year. As soon as the people who were automatic admits - at several places decline A&M (yes, I know it is hard to believe - but some will decide to go to that other school... and that is good for you ;) ) The admissions will start rolling the admits out to the review people. Again, you may hear at anytime... watch the applicant.tamu.edu site, that is where you will see the first indication a decicsion has been made. And as the admissions counselor told us, try not to think about it... impossible I know, keep positive. And know there are other ways to be an Aggie, and they arnt too terrible.

I hope if you visited counselors or visited colleges you sent thank you notes.... If you did not, it is not too late...

Yes, I did.

And the wait is VERY hard.
I just read over my stuff I have sent, (essays, letters of rec, statement of purpose, resume, ect) and think to myself I don't know how I can be denied.

I'm sure it'd help if my score was stronger, but that would probably be the one thing holding me back.
