I just got to my college and I have never attended classes at the college. I had bad anxiety attacks in the past two days and don’t feel good which has made me decide that I want to go to a college closer to home. My college’s semester hasn’t started yet. So can I just apply to another college or do I have to be a transfer student?
If you withdraw now before you start , you will still be a freshman when you apply again. Do you plan to take a year off because all colleges have probably started. If you need to withdraw, you need to decide sooner otherwise you will be charged tuition.
If you have not taken any college courses, then you are a Freshman not a Transfer.
Many new college students feel the same way at the beginning. My advice is give it at least a semester to acclimate and then if you are still unhappy, then consider transferring. If financial aid is an issue, then preserving your Freshman status might be advantageous.
Yes, you can withdraw immediately and will not be a transfer student. Expect to probably not get a full refund.
The bigger issue is that you need to address having panic attacks and being freaked out about leaving home. You might just need to ease into the transition by starting out at community college. I encourage you to seek counseling, because you need to learn how to cope with stress and cope with difficulties in life.
Does that work if I got housing on the campus and had to move in before college started but still haven’t taken a class yet
You will very likely lose your housing money, at least for this semester, and depending on contract, potentially the year. Do you have parents helping you? Have you asked for help at your school? Reach out.
No I don’t have parents helping me a lot of my stuff came from student loans through the government
What scares you?
What college are you attending?
It should have a counseling/health center: go there asap.
What you’re feeling is normal, most freshmen have cold feet. Moving away from home is scary, starting college is scary, it’s even scarier if you don’t have parents/siblings who went through it.
This College admitted you. Thy want you. Thy think you can succeed. If it’s affordable, you can give it a try.
How much are you paying - how much in loans?
If it costs more than you can afford the situation is different.
