Hi i am a junior that attends a competitive public high school in ny. I want to major in communications and i'm def not a math and science person-more of a writer. Here are some of my stats:
4.4w gpa (don't know what it is unweighted)
Bordering Top 10%
5 on Ap euro exam
Sat II's : 590 math 1c, 680 bio
-I am taking all the honors and ap classes possible at my school and next year i am taking all aps
-i take 2 languages (spanish and italian)

Sats: 1970 :710 writing, 680 cr, 580 math (i'm taking them again in june)

Extracurriculars:
-varsity track 3 years
-prez of youth group
-a few clubs
-editor and writer of a lit mag at my school
- lots of community service activities (aids walk, volunteering at a childrens center etc
-summer spanish study program

Can you tell me if i'm being realistic in looking at:
Nothwestern, Wash u, emory, brandeis, tufts, georgetown, ucla and u penn?

hi thanks for ur input....i wanted to add to my ecs:
-league soccer team for several years up to 10th grade
-tutoring spanish weekly
-camp counselor this summer

also i wanted to know if i bowdoin and vanderbilt are schools i should be looking at? Also, does any one know of any good schools which are urban, small-medium size, and competitive...location doesn't matter.

Nothwestern, Wash u, emory, brandeis, tufts, georgetown, ucla and u penn?

I used to be like you once, so optimistic, then my dreams were crushed by rejections after rejections... I am an international student with a little better stats than yours. I thought ucla and wash u were going to be my safety, but i was sadly mistaken.
I would say your chances at upenn gtown washu and northwestern is about 20%. and the rest about 40%, but i would highly recommend picking safeties, just in case. My friends(5 of them) had 1500s and 4.0uw and great ECs ended up going to their last choice school :(. but then again, admission process is extremely unpredictable, just look at the washu board. So many 1500s rejected, while 1200s accepted, and that goes for ucla too

UCLA out of state needs to be thought of as an ivy in terms of admissions standards. I would really work on the SAT scores and choose some safeties.

your SAT II's are one of your weak points. Try to improve them. You said that you were not a math/science person, so you should try some SAT II's in subjects that you are great at. for instance, a lanuage or literature.

Yea i know that math score really sucks....i'm planning on taking the us history one this year and possibly spanish which i should both do very well on. Do i have to put the sat 2 math score on my transcript? And does anyone have any suggestions for safteys? Also, if i applied early decision to northwestern do u think i would have a much greater chance of being accepted?
