Am I being selfish?

Hello everyone!

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to put it.

Ok so I am going to the junior and everyone is asking me about college. Everyone (my parents, friends, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, and family friends) is expecting me to go to the local state college. They always ask me what I'm thinking for college and then when I reply they always just get mad and tell me just to go to the local state college. My family already has my whole college planned out. I am a legacy because my mom, dad, and 8 other family members have gone to school there and 3 of them have taught there. My parents want me to live at home and not go any where because they do not want to pay for my college. My family is financially stable but my parents have no college fund because they want me to go to the state school. I really don't want to go to the state school because I don't want to keep living this conformed lifestyle. Also, I am way smarter than the average admission statistics to get in, and I really wouldn't have to try as hard these next two years to get into college. I really don't want to go to the local state school but I don't want to let anyone down.

So the question is, Am I being selfish for wanting to go out of state and not go to the local state school?

You are selfish to think your parents should pay for it. If you want to go someplace else, then you probably have to come up with the stats to get some automatic scholarships. Here are some options:

Another choice is to move away after college. You probably have 60+ years to live after you graduate, so take the opportunity to complete your degree without a lot of debt and then move on to the life you want.
