I am a Kelley DA taking 17 credits this semester. I'm also definitely applying for the business honors program.

Here is my current schedule:
A100
E201 with Graf
K204 (honors comp in business)
M119
elementary russian (an easy A since i took russian all through hs but this was the only russian course that would fit into my schedule)
Religion and American Culture (this is the course I'm considering dropping--there is a lot of reading but other than that it doesn't look to be incredibly difficult)

I always get my work done but I'm a little worried about this courseload---too much??

Could you get into a more advanced Russian class? Are you using Russian to satisfy the international dimension? It seems like a huge waste of time to take four semesters of a foreign language to satisfy the international dimension if you can get credit for the four semesters by testing into the third or fourth semester and taking only one or two classes. The foreign language classes aren’t good for meeting any Kelley requirements except the international dimension. The one- and two-hundred level language classes don’t help at all with the 27 hour core. If you can test into a higher Russian class, I would drop elementary Russian and take a more advanced Russian class next semester and just do 13 hours this semester, since you are taking A100, which is as much work as a three credit class. Also, there is a Hutton honors class called “The Fantastic in Russian Literature” that still has openings. The Hutton honors classes tend to be interesting but pretty easy in terms of grading and workload, and that class will apply to the A&H distribution option, and you could take an advanced Russian language class later and finish the international dimension with only one or two classes.

Thanks!! I actually talked to my Russian professor today and she told me to just drop the course since it would be a complete waste of time. So you think it would be okay to just take the 13 credit hours this semester? I came in with 15 AP credits so I’m not too worried about it…but I just want to make sure I’m not hurting my chances for Kelley honors if i only take 13. I feel like if I take these and do well I should be ok…thoughts?

You need to have 26 credits by the end of May, so as long as you take 13 or more you will be fine. GPA and leadership are the most important things (GPA is the hardest). Then they look at resume, essay, and course difficulty next.

I think 13 would be fine for your first semester. K204 (very time consuming, with the group project) and A100 in the same semester is plenty difficult. Do leadership positions in clubs to help get into business honors.

Thanks guys! I talked with an advisor today and decided just to drop the Russian class. I’ll pick it up again next semester. Thanks for all the input!
