Am I in at Michigan? I have no idea. Honestly.

taromakino, U of M is rolling admission --- once the pool gets pretty much filled, the competition for remaining slots gets tougher.

Actually, I'm not sure if I'm economically disadvantaged. I don't recall anywhere on the application stating exactly how much income your family has earned. Combined, My parents earn about $33000 a year. What do you think? Is there any chance that I could be deferred or waitlisted?

More feedback is always welcomed.

I define a reach as about 25%.

There's a good possibility you will be deferred + waitlisted. And I think on the application there is somewhere to indicate if you are economically disadvantaged though I dont' remember exactly

I heard a college admissions officer sarcastically refer to an essay like yours as "right place, right time." Definitely not a hook.

Of course I was joking. You would be entering those schools I mentioned as an elite student if you did in fact decide to matriculate. You do in fact have a decent shot at U. Michigan, which academically and socially is a far better place to go to school than The Ohio State University.

if anyone reads this, DO NOT go to Ohio State, go to Michigan.

25% That's not that bad...

BTW, I forgot to mention the fact that my parents don't speak English fluently, and I tutor them on a daily basis. This of course makes me bilingual.

As always, more feedback is welcomed.

lol I go to WMU... I can't imagine anyone that gets rejected here... :'(

About the 26 on ACT, honestly - it's not too high but I have known people who have gotten in with that. So while it's rare, it's not like O_O;;

that being said, you applied kind of late... that can count against you, and OOS...

I think you'll be deferred.

tennismark123, U of M knows its high schools. They are committed to attempting to put together a diverse class both racially & economically. If your school is one that has a large number of economically disadvantaged students, that is a plus for you. While they don't know for sure if you fall into that category, they can make a reasonable assumption that that may be the case. They may well give you a bit more leeway on ACT scores for that reason. On the other hand, if you are from an affluent school where many kids have ACT scores in the 30's, you have a lesser chance. They have to play a numbers & statistics game.

Did you let on in your essays that you have non-English-speaking parents? I hope so, as it may be in your favor to have done so.

Again, no one can say whether or not you'll be accepted. You just have to wait. If you want opinions, count me in as either deferred or rejected. But if you are accepted, I wouldn't be surprised. I can't stress enough that you can't be sure one way or another!!

its "input" grr...haha i also wrote about car crash for my mich essay, except it was about the time i left my car in reverse and had to chase it into my neighbors yard! (somehow they let me in)

Thanks for the input kelsmom. Adida3130, I hope everything worked out in that situation. As always, more feedback is always appreciated. Thanks.

O.K Now I'm just wondering if there is any chance of getting a deferral because, by the time the admissions office makes a decision for me, the deadline would have passed a while ago and the committee probably has at least looked at all the applications submitted. Am I wrong for thinking this? More feeedback for my chances at Michigan is also appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, take a deep breath and calm down! At this point, all answers are equally possible --- so if I were you, I'd find something fun to fill your time until U of M gets back with you. If you obsess about this for the next few weeks, it won't help you one way or the other in terms of your admissions decision. It will, however, keep you from enjoying your senior year. I know it's easier said than done, but try to focus on other things and put the decision out of your mind for now. But DO post when you find out ... and I hope that it's an acceptance!

Thanks kelsmom and I'm sorry if I was a little impatient. I'll try to loosen my anxiety over the next few weeks.

I just got accepted today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the best day of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everybody for posting replies on my thread, and maybe I'll see you next year!!!!!

Congratulations!!! You certainly had a long wait ... I hope you love every minute at U of M!
