Sorry for the cliche-ness of this thread, but I am seriously debating between the two.
I want to devote my full attention to prepping for one instead of prepping for both and seeing which I perform better on, thus I spend more time in one.

So I have heard that people who have sharp analytical skills and who are naturally smart perform better on the SAT than the ACT, and that ambitious individuals who study well and learn high school material well do better on the ACT.

I don't mean to offend anyone or be subjective that is simply what I have heard. That being said if that is true I fell I am more suited for the ACT. However I don't like science, I am not bad at it but I don't really like it.

I’d say to take a weekend off and sit down and take both a practice ACT and SAT (you should be able to get both from your counselor). Do better on one than the other? Choose that one. Oh, and make sure you take both tests completely cold.

By the way, ACT science isn’t reeaally science. It’s just analyzing graphs.

i’m not sure about link rules here or i’d post a great page for picking. what CC said about science is definitely true though - you don’t need to recall scientific formulas or anything like that. you DO need a sharp understanding of data representation.

I personally believe that the ACT is much easier than the SAT in terms of content. Math and the reading and grammar are all 9-10th grade level on the ACT. (aside from those pesky trig problems)

The science portion of the ACT is really just analyzing graphs and a bit of the reading exam for conflicting viewpoints. Every science test I take cold I always get 6-8 wrong so just like reading it can’t much be studied for, beyond familiarization of course.

Take both tests cold. I got a 27 ACT and a 1600 SAT cold. Which do you think I picked?

Feb: ACT: 28 comp, 33 reading 28 science <— can’t be studied for. 27 math, 24 English (ew) <---- can be studied for.

I’m taking one SAT in June for the hell of it. Good luck though. I’m taking the IL ACT tomorrow.

Contrary to rumors, there’s no true way of seeing what test is a better “fit” than taking the test yourself. If anything, I’d argue that the science section in particular is a better sign of raw ability than any SAT section (the writing is extremely learnable, the reading can be “bumped” with learning vocab).

My advice: Take both tests. If there is a noticeable gap between the two scores, take the test with the higher score. If not, study for both and see which one you do better on.
