So you guys think i am a competitive candidate for BU’s 7 year medical program and the school in general??

You need to REALLY somehow increase your GPA to near 4.0. SAT scores need to jump as well. I am not saying this to be harsh, but to be honest as well as the fact I don’t know your personality and also they are choosing the next generation of doctors. Also I’m friends with the SMED’s of the graduating class of 2013. And basically they all were brilliant and so will probably be the applicants of the class of 2015. And I will warn you now, many of the applicants of will of an Indian and Asian ethnicity, so you really need to up those stat’s because many of them will be even more competitive. Most of my friends were accepted to places such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and even Oxford. They however chose BU because they were accepted through the program.

And it’s great that you have volunteered, what have you done and for how long? Also you have nice activities. You have a chance but you need to just increase the SAT score as I’ve said earlier. And make sure your senior year you REALLY get A’s in those courses. Now to warn you for the interview, don’t get scared or nervous, because they will notice that instantly and play off your nervousness.

yes, you are competitive for the school, but not the med program (unless you attend TJ so that gpa comes with a reason).

If you get accepted it’s good that you’re Indian… basically the SMEDs are almost all Indians

Psh, ben_breeg, there are plenty of white and asian SMEDS, I know a couple of them.

I don’t know… I might be wrong… but I have a friend who’s a SMED and one of his friends told me that there was one white SMED, several asians, and the rest were indians in the freshman class last year. I don’t know about SMEDs who got in earlier. Again, I haven’t asked the SMED guy I know personally, but I know this from his friend.

Jim… what do you mean there are plenty of white smeds/asian smeds…

There are 2 white smeds… and 6 asian smeds… the other 17 are indian?

The trend continues this year. Indian population is growing, emigration is high and the kids are brilliant. Topped off by “Tiger Moms and Dads”.

your SAT score really needs a boost, but the upward trend in grades will help you out a lot for showing progress…
you really need to show a well-developed interest in something by having leadership positions to grab attention for these sorts of programs… it’s definitely a reach since, as golfblackhole pointed out, the applicants for these programs are predominantly asian… when i interviewed for the program my interviewer asked me to explain every B i ever got… i still got into the program but if you get interviewed places, be prepared to discuss these sorts of things… just write strong essays and the rest is a crap shoot
