Am I reaching too far? Harvard, Cornell, Brown, Penn, and Hopkins! Will chance back!

****I know that my SAT's are slightly low but do I have a chance at these schools because of my extracurricular and vocational experiences (I want to become a doctor). How much do you think the SAT I will be a hindrance?

Also, if anyone who responds I would be glad to chance you back

bump —

As I’m sure you know, Ivy admissions are crapshoots and none of them are ‘target’ schools for anyone. If you raise your SAT score to a 2250+ you will have a good chance. You’re ECs are great btw- congrats!

Yes your Sat I is a little low. The rest looks excellent especially your out of school activities. I would list Nat Honor Society last. Can you get a personal glowing reference from the doctor you did research with, or the congresswoman? I’d also include the link for the podcast on the common apps ecs.

The surgical internship is a little scary- what did you do?

Best of luck! I think you have a good shot but nothing is sure.

@milkweek: I observed and handed the doctors tools. I just updated the OP. Thanks for the help

You are certainly not reaching too far. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into at least 2 of those schools.

First thing: Your ECs seem terrific to me, even for the schools you’re applying to. It is clear that you have a passion for the medical profession.

Your SAT scores are definitely a hindrance though, no doubt about it. Your course rigor does seem high, however, and your grades are perfect. A particularly strong recommendation from the doctor will be a huge help, but you really want to get those SATs up into at least the 2200 range (it’s not too hard; I had a 2090 and jumped to 2280, as you saw, just by taking 2 practice tests).

I don’t think you’re reaching too far; I’m confident you’ll be accepted into at least one of those schools.

Your best bets are Penn, Cornell, Hopkins, Vandy.

And Brown. I know someone with similar stats who was rejected from Princeton. :/

your SAT 1 is a bit low, but your GPA and SAT2 is very very very solid. Extremely solid. You have a good chance for Cornell and you’ll get into Hopkins ED for sure.

Cornell, Brown and Hopkins are probably in reach. You’ve got a good GPA and good EC’s but your lack of APs (only7) and your relatively low SAT probably pre- empts you from Harvard&Penn.

@mike7vick

We are on a block schedule and are not allowed to take AP’s during freshman year. I have also taken the most rigorous classes of anyone at my school. With this in mind do you think Penn and Duke are in reach?

Btw I’m upset that the Eagles are on bye this week, they always play an exciting game.

How do 7 5’s (not even counting his/her Senior year) constitute a lack of APs?

Bump----

Could anyone tell me which schools specifically they think I have a chance at?

Wow, I really envy your stats!!
I think you are a well-qualified student. However, as you know, many ivy schools are reaches for anyone, and nobody can predict what the result would be.

could you please chance me back?

WOW. Your EC’s are fantastic. The only weakness is the SAT I but everything else is perfect.

Harvard- 35%
Cornell- 80%
Brown- 40%
Penn- 50%
Hopkins- 85%

chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1227715-chances-usc-nyu-jhu-other-top-30-colleges.html

Thanks and I chanced you back…you have a good shot at all your schools

Pretty good shot at JHU, Vandy, and Cornell. Decent-ish chances at Northwestern and Duke. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia, UPenn, Brown, well, they’ll all be high reaches, Actually, your chances at UChicago are very strong, as they only look at the two-part SAT(: Just consider retaking the SAT and then write great essays. While I’m sure you’ll get into one or two of these schools, you really need to add some safety and target schools… I think you might like Tufts and Emory, though they’re both (lower) reaches, too. You might also want to consider Tulane (as a low match), as well as William and Mary. Best of luck in all your worldly endeavors(:

Well this is incredible (I have to be honest)
I dont think ur SATs we’ll hamper u too much at all, because everything else balances it out incredibly!

Regarding specifics, all of the ivies, Chicago and Duke(except maybe Cornell for you) will be reaches, and always will be reaches, even if your SAT score becomes perfect :stuck_out_tongue:
But they are deffinietely possible reaches!

Regarding JHU, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern, I think it all goes down to ur essays, but considering your amazing Experiences, you will probably end up with an AMAZING essay
I know about UM’s 7 year med program, and I know how difficult that is to get into, so I would say that might also be a challenge BUT you have had a wide variety of medical experiences, so that may become a perfect match for you :)

Regardless though, you need some easier schools, to guarantee that u will go somewhere, no matter how incredible u are! :)

Thanks and I am also applying to multiple safety schools I just did not list them on the post.
