Yikes... I two D+ on APEcon and APStats with a 3.3GPA weighted for 1st semester.
What should I do now? I recently got word from Cal Poly Pomona and SJSU that I was accepted, but I'm worried now that they might revoke me now.
But I have a good reason why I got Ds in those class though cause I'm always absent and more than 30% of the grade is class participating. But I have some real life issues of why I couldn't be in school cause I'm always sicked and depressed. My mom has cancer, my uncle just died of liver cancer 3 months ago, and my other uncle recently found out that he has liver cancer. The entire family is stressing up and being really depressed, my cousin is even thinking about suicidal thoughts and been taking depression pills. It's extremely stressful and hard to focus on any classwork when your family is failing apart.

But anyway, let's get back on topic though, do you think there's still a chance to get in with 2 D+? My counselor is useless and don't know.
What should I do?

I realize you’ve already applied, but this is the fundamental problem with the CSU application-- it focuses only on your GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Nothing else. You could play first violin for the Boston Symphony, or have raised your siblings singlehandedly, and the CSUs would never know.

I agree completely with the posts before mine-- contact the schools and speak to the admissions offices, tell them your situation. I can’t imagine they won’t be sympathetic.

Can you start seeing a therapist to help you work through this tough time?

What do they really mean by “failure to complete courses”? Is a D+ part of that? What do they expect by “maintain the grade point average”? The people that know the answer are not reading this forum, they’re in admissions at the CSU schools where you applied.

They’re going to see your grades eventually, it isn’t like if you don’t bring it up they’ll never notice. Colleges like maturity and students that face their problems head-on. Calling or emailing shows this, and furthermore if there is some way to work it out by taking a summer school class or something else this next semester, now is the time to find out. If you wait until August for them to get your final transcripts it will be too late, and a strike against you will be that you clearly knew about the issue since February but did nothing.

I am really sorry to hear about the hardships you face. I expect that adcoms will be understanding of that, but you are far better off to call or email them now while there is more time to work things out given the extenuating circumstances you have mentioned.

If you make up the grades prior to the end of the year you will fine. Maybe you can take an online class. Something a little more risky…is I have heard CSUs will count a D in the first semester as being made up if you get a passing grade in the second semester. I would verify this if I were you with each school. Call admissions.

Thanks for the response guys.
What the best way to contact like Cal Poly and San Jose?
Tried look at their site for email address but couldn’t find any.
I found one phone call number, but I don’t think it’s the right one for admission.
