Am i taking too many classes?

I am taking 15 units this semester as a freshmen at a community college.

Spanish 5 Credits
College Algebra 3 credits
Sociology 3 Credits
Psychology 3 credits

Idk if i can handle the workload. I'm suppose to study 10-14 hrs a week for spanish & 2-3 for each class a day. Is this too much? Thinking of dropping socio just so I can get 12 credits which is still considered a full time student. Any opinions anyone?

i heard there are many kids who aim for 20 credits. Since it’s a community college it shouldn’t be too hard. Kids tell me that HS is actually harder than community college because most high schools want their students to aim for universities, so they make their courses harder.

yea but HS isn’t all tests… College your grade is basically test only… and I’m not always the best test taker… Dunno how imma study for all 4 classes at once when i have finals tests etc…

First, I would not try to figure out how hard your class work will be at your new college by basing it off your old high school. Your old high school could have sucked and your new CC could be top ranked.

15 units sounds reasonable. 18 is the cut off for the most part. After that you need to petition. It’s only 4 classes. A lot of times professors will tell you that you need so many study hours per unit, and most of the time that’s pretty exaggerated. I take on average 5 classes a semester and I spend 5-8 hours studying/doing hw a week.

The only thing I would have done differently is not have taken both Soc and Psych. They are basically the same class and you could have taken a science/art/history class instead. You’ll be fine.

I was goin to take english 100 but all of it was fulll. I took socio just so I could have 4 classes. I guess I will see in the next 2 weeks to see the workload. I am not the best test taker too… Some of my classes are based on test only.

I think you’ll be fine. Just be aware of your schools drop by dates. You don’t want to get stuck with a W.

feel it out, only you yourself will know how much is too much, seek tutoring if you need help.

your CC should offer free tutoring services. :)

and if it is still to much…drop if you cant handle it. just drop the classes before the deadline. and you want to drop with a full refund + without a W if possible.

i think your classes are pretty ez ones. if you are in spanish 5, im assuming you are either a native speaker or one really dedicated student and it shouldnt be a problem.

psych and soc are almost the same and will use a lot of the same terminology and will overlap concepts which is great for studying. just dont confuse the 2.

math is math. you either know it or dont. so get help if you dont haha GL!
and do all the extra credit if it is offered for reassurance.

It’s elementary spanish. I am asian & don’t speak spanish lol even though I took 2 years in HS.

Actually looks pretty reasonable, but it also depends on you and your teachers. Good luck!

well if you feel that it’s too much, then why not cut some units?? it’s up to how YOU feel and if you’re comfortable with it.

My roommate has been taking 22-24 credits every semester and he is an civil engineer major taking difficult classes while I am taking 19 credits myself - 4 sciences (3 are with labs) and one calculus 2 class. Looking at your classes: spanish college algebra sociology and psychology, if i was you i would not worry much because from my experience sociology and psychology at the introductory level aren’t hard and they are both interesting courses. You will do fine.

Your classes seem easy. I been taking 17 units, but just make sure not to slack off.
