I thought it was fair. They really didn’t have to know how to swim. It looked like the suit was buoyant, and they just needed to keep their face in the water to note the volcanoes. It was fear/panic/discomfort that did the guy in, no different than the various height challenges, e.g. repelling, climbing the ice wall or balancing on the rope bridge.
I was going to say similar - the tasks didn’t actually require too much actually swimming but the fear of HAVING to and not knowing and even just being in the water would make a non-swimmer really anxious.
snorkeling the divide and canyoning in Iceland are now on my bucket list That looked so fun. And the landscape was absolutely stunning. I also like all three remaining teams, though how could you not favor the twins.
Thought the final placement was correct. The leg was a bit linear, and seemed difficult to overtake another team. Even the last task, although long, had such a learning curve that getting there first made a huge difference. The second place team definitely had a shot, but were directionally challenged. Great final three and fun season.
When the twins missed the parking area on the bridge, then left the bridge heading in the wrong direction, they were cooked. Did well to come in second, though.
And not a dry eye in the house when the twins passed the finish line. What a great story!
Getting lost on the way to the guitars seemed to put them farther behind.
Happy with the outcome and the 1, 2, 3 and it seemed to play out without any big fail.
As a runner, I could see that Claire was NOT a runner! LOL, and not afraid to admit it.
I’m very happy for them. Even though they are a “reality couple” I think they (and any of the other two couples if it was them) played well, fair and deserved the win. The twins were super consistent and smart but I think that over the season Claire and Derek made a few key strategic moves in the challenges that really helped them out.
I could NOT watch that bridge climb - YIKES - it was so hard for me to watch! I do think that Derek moved FAST up that bridge and that “5 minutes” was the 5 minutes they needed for a bit of an edge that would be so easy to lose, but in the end, helped give them the time edge to win.
Love this show and will ALWAYS look forward to new seasons!
Does anyone know if we are getting another season sometime after the holidays, or was this it?
Like Survivor, 2 races per TV season used to be the norm.
Apparently The casting for The Amazing Race 35 began in June 2022, and filming then started in mid-October…
One of the locations confirmed for the 35th season of The Amazing Race, so far, is Mexico.
Host Keoghan and the new teams were photographed by fans. They were doing challenges on the beach in Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Coast in October 2022, and some of the images were then shared on social media.
Excellent season, and well played final 3. Congratulations to the winners.
At some point. Just not for Spring
Tough As Nails is a good distraction in the meantime.
I thought it was interesting to see the teams running through streets full of people. All of the challenges have been relatively isolated during COVID. Maybe they figured if the cast got infected on the last day, it wouldn’t matter.
Or somehow less precautions in the US???
I love they return to a city in the US and to get to see how they use the city many we may be familiar with. Detroit is not far from me and so cool to see the sights you know as AR challenges
Was a pretty good finale. The memory challenge and also having to play the keys within 11 seconds was interesting. I read that D&C were about 15 minutes ahead of the twins and they were in turn about 15 minutes ahead of Luis and Michelle. Thought that D and C played a good game overall - they were good with directions, played strategically and didn’t make any bad mistakes. I liked the fact that they didn’t appear to the “strongest” or the most athletic team, but they were still able to win.
I’d said I hoped the twins would win but I thought Derek and Claire would so no surprise. But I teared up anyway. I liked all final 3 and thought they all played the game well. I read one article that Claire’s parents ran a boot camp for them 3 weeks before they left including teaching them to drive stick shift and dropping them off places with only a paper map. They must have a good relationship for him to fake that he was going to propose and her laughing about it. That could have been quite awkward. The final challenge seemed really really hard. But nice to hear the orchestra play the theme song over and over. Can’t wait for the next season - maybe next summer?
Emily, we heard throughout the season about your injury that definitely slowed you down at points. How much did that contribute to you not winning the final leg, in your opinion?
Emily: If you stripped away the injury, we made a lot of very minor errors that added up, and it took away from time. So I don’t think the injury had much to do with our second-place finish in that leg.
Can I ask some clarification on what exactly your injury was? You said you had hurt your quad, and then we see you in a knee brace at what point. What was happening?
Emily: So in the beginning of the race in Jordan, I had actually torn some muscle fibers in my quad. So the medic teams were taking care of me. They wrapped me up. They were giving me topical treatments. And I was just doing my very best not to reinjure that and let it heal. As a result of that, I overcompensated on my left leg which started the knee issues.
Molly: She ended up with bilateral tibial fractures. So she had the fracture in her left knee. I thought, “If she can still walk on it, maybe it’s just fluid on her knee. We just need anti-inflammatories. We’ll be fine.” But I think when she started overcompensating then for that pain on her right leg, she ended up with another fracture in her right knee. We didn’t know this until after the race. She’s like such a trooper like that. I mean, the medic team and myself, we didn’t think it would be that serious.
Emily: I had around the clock care between the medic team and Molly. They had me on a strict regimen of anti-inflammatories.
Molly: Ice and rest. I was like her little waiter. (Laughs.)
Emily: I was 100% off my feet between legs. (Laughs.) There was no walking as soon as we got back from the Pit Stop.
