I am very interested in politics, like working on campaigns, ect and want to study IR & polisci. Ive narrowed my choice down to these five. If you go to any of them whats it like? any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

i'd pick tufts. but if you really want to be in DC for politics, go to GW.

I am overwelmed by the response....

i know gw is one of the best at polisci but elliot school and tufts are both good at IR.

tufts or GW. tufts is VERY strong in IR, but GW is DC. you should visit.

Campaigning huh? You sound like my roommate who is a political communications major. Basically, poli comm is the study of the interaction between media and politics. The program is housed in our School of Media and Public Affairs which also has some of the best faculty at GW. You should definitely do some more research into GW's poli comm program.

I think I would go to GW or American if I was convinced that I would get the same quality of education as Tufts or Brandeis. Does anyone have any insight into this? Are the academics at these schools comparable?

Richmond...

It's hard for me to say if GW's academics are comparable to other schools. You should make the most of your education regardless of what school you attend. GW students are known for getting very involved with their professional development. Being in the heart of DC, we're very accessible to tons of internships. CNN's On the Story is filmed every Friday night on campus. I've known students who started as an intern there and moved on to bigger jobs at CNN and in the government. During campaigning season, a lot of kids are volunteering with campaigns in the DC area and around the country. I know a guy who drove the Kerry daughters around as part of the motorcade. He memorized their snack list. Opportunities like this and the drive that's you develop at GW can definitely take you places.

Tufts > GW

For the love of God Jesus Go to Tufts

heh......here is my hesitation in going to Tufts...I live like 6 blocks away from the Somerville campus. It is literaly like a 15 minute walk there. I've lived here my whole life, hell my HS graduation is at Tufts. I know it is a great school and all, but am wondering if it is worth the staying in Somerville. That and politics in Somerville are not interesting and there is SOO much more political stuff to do in DC. All of this said I dont especially want to go to GW and get a worse education.

Is the Elliot School better then the Fletcher Schooll?

"Is the Elliot School better then the Fletcher Schooll?"

Certainly not, but I understand your concern with being near home and how that complicates things. Keep in mind that Tufts does have a semester exchange program with American so you can still spend time in D.C., and it certainly seems like you want to. Good Luck.

Don't forget to keep GW's lofty price tag in mind...

It's too bad that Tufts is so close to home; if it weren't, it would be my choice in a second for you.

Personally, I'd go to Brandeis. But, GW sounds like a better fit for you.

I think worse is a strong word. As I mentioned in other posts, the environment is a key factor in anyone's decision. DC provides tons of opportunities for internships, work experience etc. The best thing is you can do this while taking a full course load instead of taking a semester off or paying extra for a summer session in DC. Both Tufts and GW are great institutions.

Maybe you should go away for school? Start anew. When I went to GW, I was the only person from my high school and I LOVED it.

Education, reputation, prestige all play important roles in a decision, but so does the campus, environment, student body, and social atmosphere. The latter set is what makes your college experience memorable. Sitting on the steps of the Lincoln gazing at the Washington monument at 3am with a new set of GW friends = priceless.

Which is the better school academicaly, American or GW? I always had the impression that GW was better, but looking at the Princeton Review's site Im not so sure. They give American a higher academic rating. American also has marginally higher SAT and ACT average scores. Ive seen on other sites American being given a grade of A- for academics, the same as Tufts and Brandeis. GW got a B.

I dont plan on using online ratings to determine what school Im going to, but it made me wonder if there is a significant difference in academics or presige between GW and American.

Post #19 provides some examples of GW's excellent faculty particularly for IR.

Is "JesusLovesYou" a statement of your religious orientation? Nothing wrong with that, but you might be a fish out of water at Brandeis.

If you can afford it, go to GW
