American Eagle/Hollister/etc. popular in college?

Way to be a ****** ns89.

I’m going to college on practically full financial aid so I gotta buy on the cheap.

way to not read what i said earlier…

i said, IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THEY COST! if you like the clothes, the go ahead and buy them… im not gonna judge you… i have friends who are on fin.aid and dont have the money to buy expensive clothes, and i dont care… I personally prefer to wear my clothes the way I LIKE THEM and if people think that is ‘beyond ridiculous’ then **** that… seriously… who are you to tell me im ridiculous for buying the clothes i like… so self -righteous…
if you cant afford expensive clothes, then thats fine, at least you go to emory, which is a great school, hopefully in the future you can… your money or your clothes dont define you… i like some clothes because i feel good in them, NOT because they are expensive, which youd seen if you read my posts thorougly, but because i dont care what they cost, i buy them because i like them… which means i can walk around in a <$10 tshirt or i can use a pair of $200+ jeans…

ns89, my post applied to people in the US. I can understand how in other countries, things are more expensive, so obviously $200 jeans would not equal $200 jeans in the US.

I just think it’s such a waste of money to spend so much money on one piece of clothing like that.

Also, you can’t just tell people, IT DOESN’T MATTER IT IT COSTS, IF YOU LIKE IT, BUY IT. Because obviously most people can’t buy whatever they want, not caring about prices.

you sound like somebody who’s trying to avoid the minimal expectations of society because you don’t want to stand out from your sweatpants-and-north-face-clad peer group :)

I would hope that people’s clothing choices would diversify in college…guess not. Not that there’s anything wrong with AE/Hollister/etc., but it’s been tiring seeing everybody in high school dress the same, every f’ing day of the year. =)

cherielia, oh ok:) well not just you though, other people have been whining…

anyway, i meant that assuming that everyone knows what a budget is… if you make $20k a year, then youre (hopefully) not gonna buy clothes for $10 k… but if you make $500 k, then its ok imo… im not saying my parents make that much as that is their private info, and honestly, i dont even know :stuck_out_tongue: but, what i mean is, and excuse me for not wording this well the first time:
What matters is not what an item costs, it is if you like it, assuming that it is within your budget. Expensive clothes dont make a person, it is how you wear them. I saw this guy a few weeks ago, totally decked out in Gucci stuff, he was without a doubt wearing stuff that was worth upwards of $10 000 dollars… and this was like a high school kid on the bus… He didnt look good in it, because he didnt seem to have any confidence to back it up and just looked weird…
While at the same time, the guy sitting next to him, had like some normal pair of <$100 jeans, and some tshirt, but he looked good in it, because he wore it with confidence and it was HIS style, not what society had dictated he should wear…
Moral of the story, like I said before(but people tend to ignore), clothes dont make you, you make you. Be yourself, if ur a punkrocker, wear that Ramones(hell yeah!) tshirt and those skinny jeans proudly, people can look good in (almost) anything…

those aren’t sweatpants. yoga pants are fine. sweatpants make a chick look gross unless she’s gorgeous to begin with.

Russell, while I agree that it’s kind of annoying when people where sweatpants EVERYWHERE THEY GO, I don’t agree with what you just said.

Do you say only really really attractive people have the right to wear sweatpants?

I never said chicks shouldn’t wear them, I just think that they look like **** in them. The exception is extremely good looking chicks, who can pull off ANYTHING. Including those garbage bag shirts which, ironically, fat chicks usually wear.

sweatpants are ok if they’re $200 sweatpants (just dont pull a plaxico! be safe!)

I’ve seen some pretty girls pull off sweatpants, but hey when you wake up for a really early class and throw on sweatpants does it really matter how you look?

Actually my peer group consists of hipsters who wear skinny pants so tight I imagine the men all must be eunuchs…note to fat people: the skinny jeans don’t work for you, ok? muffin top is not a good look. what is with the skinny jeans obsession?

if you’re talking about the big baggy sweats, I don’t think they look good on anyone, but I get why people wear them. yoga pants look a lot nicer and are just as comfy, imo. also those lululemon sweats look pretty nice.

milli, you buy $200 sweats? that’s pretty funny.

Also, *** is with Juicy? These $100+ sweaters are def. not worth the money! I can make those clothes out of a towel!

Hmm, a picture would be a lot helpful. But I can see the points (sort of).

Also, the person who said something about dressing like a grown up: what do you even mean?

haha psycho’78, sorry i didnt take a picture :stuck_out_tongue: i have a habit of not doing that to random people on the bus :P

@stargazer, well i guess since it became pretty big in europe a few years ago, (like 9-10), americans have now started realizing it too :stuck_out_tongue: and so everyone(everyone who cares) needs to get a pair regarldless of fit… youre right, they arent meant for ++size people… they can deal with it… ive worn my fair share of tight pants, but have realized i cant be very comfortable in them, and i dont like the very baggy pants either, its like wearing a tent, so IMO, a streety version is pretty nice, not tight, not baggy, jeans like diesel, replay, energie, andrew mackenzie(very expensive though), evisu/evisu-puma, J.lindeberg, tiger of sweden(awesome brand, dont think its common here), nudie jeans… etc… btw those last three are from sweden, only think j.lindeberg is actually famous around here, but nudie jeans can be found at Barneys :)

re. sweatpants - well i dont agree there, i think sweatpants are fine, spec. for like early morning classes when youre in a hurry, i dont really like it when people wear it ALL THE TIME though… and yes you are very very very very correct, it looks better on good looking girls than anyone else…

all in all, why cant we all just get along :stuck_out_tongue: ? if u wanna buy cheap clothes, do it! if u wanna buy expensive clothes, do it(as long as you have the money)… it doesnt matter that much… as long as you yourself like what youre wearing…

The best thing is no clothes at all. Let’s start that trend…

o_0

…

ns89 - well skinny jeans have been popular in America for a while now too, I’ve seen them since at least 2004…imo they only look good on one type of person: skinny women. they are a no-no for fat women and men as far as i’m concerned. when is see a boy in extremely tight pants, my immediate thought it he can’t possibly have a pen!s. but I guess some women are turned on by that?

My friend, here wears them all the time and surprisingly gets (attractive) girls. I think he looks like a drag queen, but I guess chicks dig it. Makes no sense.

haha yea i was just exaggerating stargazer ;D yea i know its been semi popular here, but the thing is that skinny pants shouldnt be too skinny, thats only when people take it too far… and yes i know some of those ppl… skinny girls look great in them, not so skinny girls, look worse… and as for guys, i dont care, it depends on what else they are wearing tbh  and especially how big they are… a 350 pound muscle football player can not pull that off…
i guess girls like it because its fashionable and because its unique, so they stand out of the crowd… personally, and not to brag, because bragging on a forum is just kinda weird seeing as you dont know who i am anyway :stuck_out_tongue: , i guess im pretty good looking and i have a pretty cool clothes style in which theres a bit of semi skinny jeans and stuff(just basically i stick out a lot form the average guy), and if i wanted to i could basically be going out with about 20-30 girls right now, because theyve all shown major interest, HOWEVER, i have an awesome girlfriend who id never cheat on so :D
