i was only able to visit the campus right after school got out, therefore iwas unable to see what most students were wearing.

before i go to grinnell, i want to make my wardrobe a bit more respectable, so i am going out and buying a handful of polo shirts, jeans etc.

my question is whether people will hate a person immediately if they were wearing abercrombie or american eagle. i am not a huge prep, all i want are some decent polo shirts that will last a while (that do not cost $100 each, ie ralph lauren), so i wanted to know this before going and buying several abercrombie shirts.

thanks for any input! :)

EDIT: sorry, the above post kinda makes me look like one of those kids who "wears AandF to try and be cool."

my wardrobe in HS consisted more or less of tshirts, and now that i have an opportunity to make myself look more respectable (withouth it being a huge shock at school), i would like to take advantage of it.

i guess my question is more like, what do most students wear on campus? polos, tshirts, grinnell stuff, dress shirts, hoodies?
i just dont want to go buy a bunch of new stuff and then not fit in at all on campus (e.g. buying abercrombie when it is looked down upon)

one of my bros went to grinnell and i have visited him quite a few times. grinnellians are very comfortable with stuff they're wear, i've seen guys wearing skirts, pjs..even go to class naked (seriously) so i'd say it's more about yourself than what you wear.

I heard that people were really relaxed and xhill and were individuals. Also, AF, hollister and AE are NOT preppy. RL Polos are and real preps anywhere will tell you that. Just avoid wearing those three brands and looking like everyother suburban lower-middle class caucasion American. hahah I didn't mean to sound mean or anything just giving you a tip. Also, J. Crew, J. Press, The Andover Shop, Vineyard Vines, RL Polo, Lily Pulitzer, LL Bean, Lands End and Patagonia are really preppy brands and real preps usually stick to those. In the east coast Nautica is decently preppy too. If you want any more prep adice pm me, by the way you are making a great choice!
