Boys State was the primary of my summer activities for my MIT application. I bet it had an important part to play in my acceptance. Also, a guy who, though didn't get elected to anything at Boys State, went on to Boys Nation and became President! He is at Harvard now.

So I got selected to go to AZ's Boy's State aby pointers?

How did he go to Boy's Nation? I thought only governors and lt. governors went to Nation.

Maybe it varies by state.. in AZ, it's a seperate nomination/interview/election process.

I went to the Massachusetts Boys State last year. It was, believe it or not, one of the best times of my life. I was really adamant about not going, because I honestly thought it was going to be like a huge sci-fi convention or something (the kids that went from my school were not people I would ever be seen with. . .I think it was like #1, #4, #7, #8, and me - #41, I still have no idea how I was nominated), but I completley misjudged everything.
As far as the no-girls go, my girlfriend was awesome and stopped by one night and I ended up sneaking her into the dorm. I seriously thought she was gonna get raped, it was good times for all.
Besides the political stuff, there's always a lot to do, they make sure you never have that much free time. Even so, my roommate managed to sneak in a ton of alcohol so my whole township deal was pretty ****ed up most of the time - and we still sent a guy to Boys Nation. We were literally the Animal House of the entire thing.

Golden Boys Stater here. One of the best experiences of my life, totally go for it if you have the chance. btw, Baker County, city of Jordan.

Yes. The people who bought packs of gum just to try and hit on her. hides his Trident pile

Synthetic Angel, in Texas you are chosen to go to Boys Nation. I forget by whom, but it's not always lieutenant governors and governors who go.

I went to SC Boys State and am going to be a counselour this summer. I had a blast.

I got a letter from Kansas Boys State that said I qualified for it...but maybe this isn't the same one that you guys are talking about. The pamphlet said that the only requirements to qualify for Boys State were Top 50% of your class and "participation in extracurricular activities".

Anyways, is this the same program? Do the entrance requirements (and, thus, the prestige of the program) vary from state to state?

Yes each state is different. Those may be the minimum requirements, but you have to be selected by your local American Legion Post.

I went to NY Boys State last year. It's a lot of fun, but it's also run by marines who you don't want to **** off.

I was in Fish County, town of Morrill. . . . .citizen 927

nyone go to NJ boys state? Cuz i jus got nominated.

hey i went to nj boys state last year at rider. let me know if you have any questions

I went to girl state in VA and it was hell a lot of fun.
i'm not sure about boy's state cuz I heard VA boy state was like a hell hole.. lol

600 ONLY boys in uniforms playing ping pongs for fun.. sounds like a swell time to me lol

but seriously, it's a great honor. it does look great on your resume.
go have fun!

I went to Girls' State last year, b/c our school said it was a chance to learn about gov't, politics, etc (I'll be majoring in Int'l Relations, and love youth goverment/mock legislature type programs). But when i got there, I was sorrowly disappointed. I think it's better in other states, but of the roughly 300 girls, most of them were horribly underqualified, not even interested in academics, etc. It was ridiculous. But, it seems as though colleges & scholarship committees like to see this on your resume. So, if you have the money & have nothing better to do that week, i say go for it. If you go, definitely, definitely run for Boys' Nation, which seems much more worth & legit than the state programs. A friend of mine went to Girls' Nation last year, and loved it. Warning tho, elections for Nation & other postions are purely popularity contests, and well, really lame, lol. But running for office helps you at least get something out of the week, and if you have the chance to go to Boys' Nation, it seems to be a great opportunity.

how do you get elected to boy's nation? Is it seperately or you have to be an officer at state

At my Girls' State, and i'm pretty sure it's the same in all states, Boys/Girls Nation is just like any other office. You can't hold 2 offices, ie be the governor & go to B/G Nation. You run under a party, and then go through both a primary & general election.

I got nominated to CA Boys State last year.. but I didn't make it past the interview... oh well.

I will be going to Palmetto Boys State (SC) this year. It looks like it will be fun.
