American Red Cross Club??

Could I start an American Red Cross Club at my school? Would I have to notify and get it okayed by the American Red Cross? Has anyone done this before? If I can do this and I do get it okayed by the American Red Cross, do you think that they would help support the club?

sorry for all the questions :)

also...could someone explain to me what Model UN does exactly. it's a school service club right?

bump, come on.......

I honestly don't know if such a thing exists as an "American Red Cross Club" but have you poked around their website? I know obviously you can do fundraisers and blood drives through the Red Cross and your school can serve as a springboard for those types of things. I am currently in the process of organizing a blood drive at my school, which simply involves picking up the phone and contacting your local Red Cross office. If there isn't an official club system, perhaps you could request permission from your principal in creating a Red Cross community service like club. I don't know. The name might be an issue (of semantics and the actual purpose of the club).

As for Model UN. It's a very popular, structured group which involves (at least in my area) the distribution of case countries to each school. From there, each school researches the nation and requested components or issues. Then, a regional summit of sorts is held in the fall and spring where schools come to debate issues involving their countries or otherwise, simulating the UN (clearly). I am sure there are regional coordinators in your area, and the UN's site may provide direction. I don't quite know if it qualifies as a "service club" as it seems more of a debate type club than anything. Hope that helps.
