Hi, I'm an international student.
I'm applying to HKU/HKUST/CUHK and it seems to me that there is not a lot of information for us out there. I already submitted all my applications by christmas and is starting to worry because i heard some people with 2200 got deferred on the fast track thing. I also heard some ppl saying if you have +2000 then you're safe, but i guess not? HKU said that their policies are changing a lot because of more spots + applicants.
Guys please leave a thread if you're one of those ppl who're really lost just like me!
I'll also appreciate leaving some stats.
(I'm also looking at that HKU+HKUST thread, but i think the thread is a bit too overcrowded bc there are too many applicants all around the world and took me long to find ppl like me)

These are my brief stats for you to refer:

GPA: 4 ish(my school is really hard and competitive) rank is unknown
SAT: 2300 ish
SATII: I'm taking 3 on Jan 28th but i'm getting nearly 800 on all my practice tests.
Recs: all good
took 3 junior yr, takin 3 senior yr. (my schools allows AP courses starting junior yr)

@OP your stats are awfully like mine. Im also From NJ now in HKU. Youre pretty much guaranteed a spot with your stats even for the competitive programs.

omg thanks guys!and sorry for this very late reply. and nahhh i applied all regular decisions and @zhuangzi seriosly that just made me feel so much better. where in nj are you from and which major are youu? were you able to get the scholarship?

@sol3920: hi sol3920. I also applied in HKU (fast track admission) and I got deferred too.
Btw for which program did you apply in HKU? I did in IBGM.

@hulkhogan88888 that’s fine! @zhuangzi i’m also applying for the scholarship program! i really need to get it, do you think i can make it? i’m nervous. @number287 haha i’m still waiting for my result to come in.

^youre fine. full ride or even half ride is no problem. however HKU does favor IB slightly over AP, but your CV should be good enough to satisfy their “extracirric” section. oh btw which high school in NJ are you from?

@zhuangzi oops jk. you just said you’re from princeton hahaha my bad !and we’re not that far away ! and can you lemme know what you got on sat/sat subject tests?im sure they’re excellent !

^CV: “Cirriculum Vitae” pretty much your resume and stuff. SATII: uh… Bio E, Chem, and Math II. i forgot the scores… i think they were all abve 750 or something. Havent been on collegeboard in awhile… wow. Cherry hill. that’s close. lol

@zhuangzi wow that’s really good! If i go there next year then we can be friends and one last question! right now im considering dropping a 2nd language course in my school - our 1st semester ended like mid january so i finished the first half of the language course but currently theres a conflict in that class so i’m REALLY considering dropping. and i looked at HKU’s website and that didn’t say/specify anything. Do you think hku will care/drop my application because i dropped a course in the middle of the year?

^nah… they wont. The amount of intl applicants that applied last year was around 42000 and considering the new four year program there’s going to be even more… some minor changes shouldn’t be too bad, unless if you’re dropping a AP class or two… :/.

haha then i guess im fine b/c it’s only an honors 2nd language course…and oh my gosh that many applicants? wahh but really, you’re giving me loads of informations, thanks!!
