American University Honors Program

Hi everyone

I applied regular decision to American University as well as the honors program. I am a full IB diploma student who has gotten a 4.0 or above every year of high school with a grade of an A or above all four years in all my classes (I have been within the top ten since rankings were released).

My problem is that I will probably be getting a B+ or a B in HL Math this year. The class is weighted but I do not know how it will look if they consider me for a position in the honors program. Could I still a chance of being admitted?

So I also applied regular decision for the honors program. My school doesn’t offer IB but over my four years in high school I’ve taken about 9 AP classes and have had above a 4.0 GPA. Unfortunately I have had a few Bs through my career however I am the founder of a nonprofit and member of my school’s speech and debate team. I wanted to know if anyone really knew what American looks for for their Honors program and whether I might also have a chance of being admitted.

@gbmex21 It sounds like you’re a really good applicant to me and I think you definitely still stand a chance at the Honors Program.

I applied also. I’m surprised there is not a lot of forums on AU Honors. I came looking for stats lol. Anyways, my friend is a freshman in the program right now, and he said the stats look similar to GPA UW: 3.8+ ACT 32+ and multiple leadership positions/ECs. I have a 3.72 UW so hopefully my essays and 34 ACT outweigh that…

Did you guys get in? I was in the Honors program and ended up hating it, along with both my roommates and about 15 other students from my cohort. If you have any questions let me know I’ll be happy to answer

Would love to know what you hated about it, thinking of applying. Thanks!

If they’re still limiting the Honors program to 45 students per year, 18 out of 45 is a pretty high hate ratio. There must be a story here…
