My daughter was waitlisted and is a little disappointed. The whole college application thing did not quite work out for her as she/we thought it would. She did not apply to Ivies or super highly ranked schools and focused on the ones that she wanted to go to. I think maybe it was partially because we did not get a chance to visit, who knows.
Stats:
GPA- 3.97 UW, 5.24 SC weighted
ACT 34
Not sure how strong her essay was but she is a great writer
had plenty of clubs, theater in and outside of school and volunteering at the childrenâs museum and the zoo
Oh well, honestly the whole decision process has really taken a backseat in our house considering what is going on in the world right now. Suddenly this whole college things seems like such an unimportant thing. There is already so much frustration in our household that this unexpected waitlist (I gotta admit, we thought she would get in for sure) did not make things better. Not sure how waitlist works but we could not do it without scholarships anyways and not knowing until after May 1st is not gonna help. She needs to take one of the other offers she has before then.

We did visit in November
American is his number 2, and upon initial review the net cost is a little higher than is first choice. Still excited for him, I wasnât sure if he would get in RD.
Daughter was accepted Poly Sci into SPA but we didnât get as much financial aid as we had hoped. She changed her area of study late last year from pre-med to poly sci so American was a late add to the list. Because of that we never visited thinking we would in the spring but now it looks like we wonât be able to. We are trying to learn everything we can online right now. It looks like a really good fit for her so Iâm really bummed we didnât get a chance to go. Here are her stats:
UW GPA: 3.8
8 APs
SAT: 1410
Sports and academic ECs with leadership positions, significant volunteer work
strong essays and Iâm guessing strong recommendations.
Congrats for the acceptances & Iâll keep my fingers crossed for the waitlists. Do you mind me asking if your children received an email or if you used the âportal trick?â I think we might call the AU help desk.
@KPG2004 my D was accepted yesterday. Her decision was posted in the future eagle portal before she received an email. Have you checked the future eagle portal?
Wow! This, literally, looks like what I would have written. My D20 was waitlisted, too, which was a shock, actually. But, itâs okay. Today, her high school began online learning for what we imagine will be the remainder of the school year. Yesterday, D20 found out officially that her senior prom was canceled, that the Youth In Government conference that she was looking forward to was canceled, and that the robotics competition her school was hosting would be canceled. Thatâs on top of the high schoolâs spring musical being canceled. As a senior, she made the choice to drop out of her varsity spring sport to be on that stage one last time.
I predict that a lot of our 2020 graduates (who will probably never wear their cap & gown and walk across a stage) will stay close to home for college. Itâs so overwhelming for them right now. They can always transfer out in the future to that dream college.
My kid made it into the Honors program. She is very excited. She has an unusual concentration for AUâpsychology and she plans to double major in painting. Anyone else in Honors? She is still waiting for more acceptances before she decides but American is high on lher list. (Clark and College of Wooster are yeses, waiting for Boston College, BU, Brandeis, GW, and Wesleyan.)
Hi there! I understand how disappointing being waitlisted and rejected can be. I was waitlisted from my top school, Wesleyan. There is hope, however. I accepted my position on the waitlist, and called and asked if the waitlist was ranked. For many schools, it isnât- so effort has to be made to show continued interest. I suggest writing a letter to the admissions department thanking them for looking over your application and offering you a place on the waitlist. Unfortunately, that is all you can do. From the little you wrote, it seems like your daughter should have been accepted. Im sorry.
The mentorship program is something that you automatically get if you get if you are admitted to Spring instead of Fall. It basically is there so that you can graduate on time since youâre starting a semester late, so the program lets you still get credits for some classes in the Fall. It doesnât really have hard benefits, it is just to help you get credits so you donât graduate late, but you can study abroad in England which is pretty cool.
I received an acceptance w/ the mentorship program as well. It seems like a great experience, but I was wondering if anyone here knew anything more about it?
Thanks!!
Iâve been accepted for IR for Spring 2021, got the option of the Mentorship Program+Internship. Sounds pretty cool, but wondering about the cost. Did the portal thing that I saw earlier, and my finances sheet says 34k per year but not sure if this includes the fall program, and if the 34k is just for the spring semester??? Did anyone else have similar costs?
