American University Regular Decision 2023

@mdf1204 Those are incredible stats. I can only assume the result is because of yield protection like many of the UCs did this year!

I have to ask: Did anybody whose portal message said they were accepted receive a letter in the mail stating otherwise? Somebody, PLEASE put my mind at ease lol.

@mattgetseducated -Yes, my daughter had checked the portal yesterday and it showed she was accepted.

According to the portal trick I was accepted which is great if this is true  From MA but traveling abroad so no idea if my snail mail decision has arrived yet. Took me a few tries to get into the portal. Does anybody know if the portal has information about the Honors program?

accepted via portal but no package yet in southern CA. saw someone got theirs in norcal already so hoping for my packet tomorrow

can someone say the portal trick again. I fill out all the information and it goes to a screen titled CONGRATS and then makes me verify and then I canā€™t get in again?!

@laroyri Thank you! And congrats to both you and your daughter!

@television317 that means your account either hasnā€™t been inputted into the system or something else. this happened to me for a few days and then finally let me log in yesterday. keep trying it!

@mdf1204 im in the exact same boat as you. it feels a little better knowing that im not alone; i went on a campus visit, attended preview day, did an on-campus interview, contacted my admissions rep, and sent in additional information + had strong grades and supplementals + heavily involvedā€¦ its really disappointing and ive been crying my eyes out haha. i hope good things come our way soon!

does anyone know what the chances are of getting off the waitlist at AU?

We are in NC. We did not get a letter yet and we did not use the portal trick but my daughter just got an e-mail from AU saying ā€œcongratulation on your acceptanceā€ and giving her the option to register for a local accepted students day. Is there anyway we can find out online if she received any merit award or do we just have to wait for the letter? Is there a pattern for merit award or is it just based on a holistic review?

Her stat:
32 ACT
4.45 gpa
10 APS
Founder and president of school club
President of French Honor society
International internship over the summer
3 years of coaching local youth soccer team
Member of School mock trial team
Volunteer for NC Supreme Court candidate campaign
Strong interest in law and politics

We love AU but merit scholarship will be a deciding factor for us.

Thanks!

Good luck everyone!

@Dixiemom1974 it should be in the portal- find the financial aid section and you can probably see her financial aid letter

My acceptance packet came today! I live about 50 miles south of Los Angeles

32 ACT
3.75/4.2 GPA

Nationally ranked pianist

Various other school, charity, and nonprofit volunteering (50ish hours)

Hooks:
Gay, Jewish, first generation American, first gen college student

Common App Essay (8/10): focused on my coming out story and how Iā€™ve spent the last four years trying to put my shadows behind me while living in a pretty religious family

Why American Writing Section (9/10): personal connection to an AU law school alumna, and briefly mentioned a professorā€™s research project I was interested on

American Supplemental (6/10): I didnā€™t know what exactly to do with this essay so it was pretty bland, but I circled it mostly around my lack of faith in the public education system and how the AUx classes would be beneficial in more than just its current setting.

Public Health Supplemental (9/10): spoke about how my passion for public health sparked from my hospital work, my dad being a cancer survivor, and the historical aspect that I find myself reading about for hours at a time. I even included a paragraph about a meme, so I think it was rather original.

Letters of Recommendation: Academic advisor (8.5/10) she was like a second mom to me and Iā€™m sure she made it rather personal, but given she handles over 600 students I doubt it was super unique // AP Lang teacher (7/10) I didnā€™t do too well in her class but she knew me really well // AP Biology teacher (10/10) I know her outside of school and I did really well in her class so I know she definitely vouched for me, she mentioned to me once it was the longest LoR sheā€™s ever written.

Thanks! We will try the portal

I got an email saying congratulations on my admission, and then it described some ice cream thing idc!!! I got in! so happyyyy!!! good luck to everyone and i hope that i receive the mailed letter because itā€™s so nice!!! Good luck!!!
