@r9campeon I am. I emailed them asking them about how much longer the wait for decisions is and I have no response as of now. Weird.
My daugther has not yet received decision
I just finished watching the webinar now and it just says FDDS notification on 4/1ā¦ nothing about being notified sooner.
They do mention that FDDS requires an interview and visit to American, but no timeframe is mentioned.
@napafolie - Logistically, my gut tells me the FDDS recipients are already decided
@familyfromLI
Me too
Daughter received her acceptance package via USPS yesterday, weāre in south Florida. Good luck to all!
Accepted 3/25/19 Honors Program via USPS. 5.19 GPA Weighted (7 AP Classes, rest of classes are Honors) 35 ACT. $20,000 scholarship. The letter she received said 19k students applied for 1,760 spots. Good luck to everyone - about 9% acceptance rate.
@ReDxFo Hopefully they give you an answer ! Keep me updated please ://
@dopefuture They accept a lot more than the 1760 spots, so not 9%. Will be interesting to see the percent though.
My son got the same acceptance letter, and I think the way the letter was worded was a little misleading - what makes the most sense is that 19000+ applied overall, and there were only 1760 spots available AFTER ED. Weād need to know the total number of students they accepted between ED and RD in order to calculate the acceptance rate. Either way, acceptance rates have been dropping across the board to every school my S applied to for the past couple of years, so I wouldnāt be surprised to see it drop this year at AU as well.
@r9campeon @ReDxFo I am still waiting as well! Iām constantly checking the mailbox and email but nothing. Can either of you access the portal?
If I got accepted into Fall Mentorship Program and Spring 2020 admittance, am I allowed to send in financial aid appeal (letter, etc,.) to AU? Because 66k annual tuition is little higher than what I expectedā¦
@Napafolie - S just told me received an email thanking him for interest in FDDS and Honors, but sadly itās a no. Kind of expected it at this point though. Funny we were both thinking about this today. Oh well. Decisions, decisions . . .
Hey everyone! I just wanted to give an update of what I know about honors & FDDS. I received notification of my acceptance to honors in my RD admissions, but Iām not sure if FDDS would be included in there. Some people in admissions said yes, but one woman wasnāt actually sure so I donāt know. For the semi-finalist round I had to submit a YouTube video and then for the finalist round I had to do a video interview but I was never asked to go to campus for anything. Havenāt heard anything since then from the FDDS coordinators but Iāll let you know if I receive an email or anything either way. Good luck to all still waiting!
@familyfromLI
Iām glad to hear about the email (I like it when schools communicate clearly!) but I am sorry to hear about the results for your son :/. Still maybe better than waiting and not knowing with certainty until 4/1.
Thank you for the info- that clarifies a lot! I wonder why their webinar this year says semi finalists must go to DC for interviews?
Best of luck!
Regarding the honors program, I emailed the American honors office on Sunday night and received a reply Monday morning (March 25). My daughter was not accepted for this program. Yesterday afternoon, my daughter received an email making it official. She did not apply for the FDDS program.
I donāt like that notifications for honors acceptances are included in the main notification letter, but nothing is sent to those not accepted for honors until significantly later. In a world without social media that would be ok, but it is a little difficult to read on this forum otherās happy news and be left wondering for your own family members. I would just prefer to get the information, good or bad, along with everybody else.
Incidentally, in the same email I also asked if honors students receive additional merit aid (i.e., meaning in addition to Deanās or Presidential scholarships), and I asked if they made the program larger this year (as a previous poster stated). I did not receive an answer to either of those questions.
@Mickman Agreed- if they are reserving admissions letters for positive notifications, it should require email or mail notification about program status/denials. We end up using social media like reading tea leaves (with some universities more than others for sure).
@mickman and @napafolie - also agree - especially given that there were some 6-8 essays that the kids were asked to write between those two programs and it took a lot of thought and effort. In the very least, the acceptance letter that says āWeāre delighted to accept youā should also acknowledge " . . . however due to a large number of extraordinarily talented students . . . yada . . . yada . . . yada."
I guess what I objected to with AUās process was the waiting and wondering, not just for the honorās program, but also for all the students who were left in limbo without knowing if they are accepted or not while others were already posting decisions. This process is stressful enough as it is - why not announce ALL the decisions on the portal the same day and give out honors decisions with acceptances . . . and THEN send out the envelopes?!!! IMHO it would be much kinder to all involved.
@familyfromLI
Very true, they could have easily wrapped it into the admissions letter phrased as you suggested. Omitting the info gave the impression that the special program/s are/were still in play.
Comparatively, Iāve been watching a painful process with Tulane EA/Deferred and UC Irvine RD. UCI says they have ārollingā admissions but itās more staggered- admitted last Friday (and into weekend for those discovering their email late), then Tuesday all waitlistā¦ and rejections pending. Kids deferred from Tulane EA were folded into ārollingā RDā¦ 1or 2 are accepted every other week or so it seems, while most waiting for a still unspecified date. Ughā¦ poor applicants.
