I know Amherst advertises admitting community college transfer students. Could anybody chance me? I will be applying from a community college from California.

GPA: 4.0
EC: Member of the baseball team, worked at a doctors office all of my freshman year, and I have also been a youth baseball coach thus far in my sophomore year.
SAT: 1930
I am sure I can get a strong letter of rec, and write a strong essay.

Hey, I’m applying from a CC too. As far as chancing goes, I don’t know how much help I can be, other than to say I’m in nearly the same boat as you are…

GPA: 3.97
ACT: 34
EC: PTK consultant, Student Body VP, Honors Council VP, etc.
Misc.: Great rec. letters and essay

Coming into this, I think it’s fair to say, we both know getting in won’t be easy. Come December, though, I would enjoy an early Christmas gift from Amherst.

Have you tried talking to the coach? I was thinking of submitting some of my research to possibly help me out. I already plugged it in my quote essay, but it sounds like overkill.

I’m also applying to Northwestern, WUSTL, and Richmond as a safety. What about you?

I am about to email him, and it looks like I will be going to a showcase at Harvard in February. So I should be able to meet him and other coaches face to face which may help.

Are you applying for the spring?

I am also applying to WUSTL, Tufts, USC, Boston University, and UC Davis.

Also if I can get any interest from other coaches then I will apply to their schools.

This whole process is a complete headache. What are you intending to major in?

I’m applying for spring. I think I may have to call the school later today though. I sent in the CommonApp on paper, but submitted my payment online. The website is telling me that they are missing my application fee. This is more of a migraine.

My majors are economics and math (since my econ pre-reqs have given me enough credit to get the math degree), but if I can sneak in poli sci or spanish I’ll do that too.

I got into Richmond today, hopefully I hear back from everywhere else within the next week. I agree with you though, that proving consistency and having everything else be solid, it should all work out.

I’ve been meaning to ask you; does your CC have a baseball program? I know that if I get into Amherst I’m going to start training again and possibly tryout, if anything for an intramural team.

No Way!!! Good for you! Way to represent for the community college students! I actually talked to the coach, and it doesn’t look like Amherst is in the cards anymore… So I wont be applying

That being said, hope is not lost. Both the coaches from Middlebury and Occidental are very interested. Ill most likely get into Oxy, and the Middlebury coach said he knows some people in admissions so he can put in a good word and increase my chances of admission.

But Amherst? Damn that’s impressive…

Yea our school has a really strong program. The majority of the guys on our team and in our league transfer to a D1/D2 or get drafted.

It wouldn’t hurt for you to give it a shot at playing at Amherst. The coach seemed like a really good guy when I talked to him. So you should meet him when you go there and see what your chances would be. They don’t start until March so that would give you some time to work out etc…
