"Among our many bright, talented and interesting applicants, you stood out."

Did anyone else get this letter today? It also came with a handwritten note.

I believe that most, if not all, admitted students got similar personalized notes. They were all special.

thats incredible. i never knew they took the time to handwrite notes for everyone!

I haven’t received anything of similarity. (For some unusual reason, my mail from Chicago tends to lag behind that of others who post on this forum.)

Chicago did that before the holidays as well if one was admitted EA.

My mood regarding UChi has soured incredibly in the past week, and seeing this only increases my bitterness towards the school. Instead of processing my finaid application, this is what they spend their time doing?

Location, perhaps? I live in NY; it takes quite a while for mail from the midwest to get to me.

Unlikely: he’s in Minnesota.

No :frowning: I guess I just didn’t stand out lol…

^^Then blame it on the inefficiency of the USPS. It takes > 48 hours for mail from NYC to reach me, and I live on LI: USPS is a paragon of slow and frustrating service.

@plumdum220: I guess I didn’t stand out either lmao. My essay sucked eggs, so I don’t blame them. :)

I live in California, and I got mine today… hmm

@ksarmand- remember, our office is separate from the financial aid office, so they are on their own time schedule over there. Sorry to hear that your aid package is slow coming, and definitely contact them at college-aid@uchicago.edu if you are worried.

^I did email them, and received a response that essentially said: “you’ll get it when we’re good and ready.” </3 My UChicago love affair disillusion Pt.1.

@ksarmand, I know exactly how you feel. Similar situation here. I am convinced that UChicago is not for middle class people. They expect parents to dig into retirement savings and home equity for college. If you are from someplace where cost of living is high relative to income then you are screwed.

:( I live in one of the top 10 counties (median income wise, that is) in an area that is decidedly not high income but still features their prices. shakes fist at fate

Or perhaps whoever is responsible for submitting mail to my region simply engages in too many idle entertainments.

^Have more faith in the UChicago offices, man. Blaming the USPS is more fun, anyway.

so what’s the deal? does everyone get these handwritten notes or are they truly only for the ones who stand out?

^Everyone got them EA. So maybe…

Well, I’d hope that people who were accepted stood out from other applicants :)

I haven’t gotten one of these notes yet, but I did recieve the whole admissions packet.

Mine just said “Congratulations.” Apparently I am not special. Woe. >:
