AMRs vs. Building A/B

As an incoming freshmen, I have been told that AMRs are very social and an excellent experience. However, Buildings A/B have AC and suite style rooms, luxuries that the AMRs do not have. So, which one would I be better off in?

Anyone you tells you AMRs are better due to the social element of it is a liar. Go for A/B or Wolman, you won't regret it and you'll live much more comfortably.

Wolman is the way to go.

can i still be able to experience the social atmosphere at A/B and Wolman?

The AMRs have a more social atmosphere (I promise I'm not lying). It is just something that comes with sharing a room and common space with people you live with as opposed to having your own suite. It is up to you to decide if a more social atmosphere or additional privacy is what you want out of the experience. There are good things to be said about both.

That's bull. Wolman is very social. Everyone on my floor always hung out in the lounge which offers a lot more opportunities for socializing than having an open door to your room.

Most of my firends haved lived in both and agree with me. You don't meet as many random people as you would in the AMRs. Wolman may be social but it isn't as social. Don't get defensive.

I was a little concerned about the lack of socializing with suite style rooms but was relieved when we toured the dorms I noticed that there were a group of kids hanging out in the common/tv area of the Wolman floor that we visited. There were no kids hanging out in the AMR area that we visited ( I am sure that is because they didn't want to be around when hundreds of strange people came filing through their hallways!) We didn't see the A/B buildings so I not sure how they are configured with a common space.
Personally, knowing how "effective" my son is with a scrub brush I am trying to talk up the benefits of a common bath that someone else has to clean!!!!;)

People hand and study in the AMR hallways all the time.

Few people socialize in the common areas of buildings A + B.

Wolman is the best of both, private suites with usable common areas

Lets have a vote:

AMRs vs. Building A/B vs. Wolman

Round 1
Fight! =P

yeah. um, I don't like humidity much, soooo i HAVE to live somewhere with an AC!!! Adding to CTBear, can you let me know the difference between :

Building A/B vs. Wolman?

I'm deciding between the two. thanks!

Is Wolman a newer building than A/B?? I just have a feeling that it is because it has a kitchenette and frig provided in the dorms, which is pretty nice and convenient. As for A/B, do they have a mini frig inside dorms? Because sometimes you might want to eat some cereal for breakfast when you are in a hurry. So, you gotta need a frig to store milk.

Wolman was built quite a long time ago. It used to be an apartment building, which, at one time, house F. Scott Fitzgerald while his wife was being treated fo illness in Baltimore. Now it is a dormitory. A and B are newer and were built suite style. To my knowledge, A and B have common kitchens. I didn't live there--I had Wolman.

O_o wow very interesting indeed... Well, shouldn't Buildings A/B come with kitchenettes and frigs since they are newer? strange...

Wolman and McCoy both used to be apartment buildings built in the 1920's and bought by the University in the 60's like coolguy said. They were completely gutted/renovated in 1991. Buildings A and B were built in the early 80's. They don't have kitchenettes but you can buy your own mini-fridge or rent a microwave-fridge combo if you want.

Does A/B have a little "sitting" common area on each floor like Wolman does?

There's a small "common area" on the entry floor (2nd floor) of building A and I think a bigger one in the basement of building B, but in reality, the hallways end up becoming the common areas. When I lived there, people would sit out there and work, watch movies or just hang out for no good reason. During finals week, we'd have dozens of people all studying different things in the hallway.

Do most incoming freshman request Wolman or A/B over the AMRs because of the A/C and suite style living? What did all of you request up front??
