I'm currently attending a California community college, and my major is journalism. I want to transfer to either Cal State Fullerton or San Francisco State University in fall 2010. One of the lower division core classes for journalism is MASS COMM MODERN SOCIETY, in which I am taking at my community college right now. However, I am failing this class, and when I wanted to drop it, it was already too late.

I am going to re-take the class in fall, and I know once my new grade is out, the old grade won't be counted in my gpa (but the F will still be visible on my transcript). My gpa is about 3.5, which is fine for most cal states, but I am really worried because of an F in this class.

Do I still have a chance of getting into these two schools?

Yes. They probably won’t even care that you have the F to tell you the truth. You wouldn’t even have to retake it. If it’s a prereq that might be a different story.

I think it’ll look a lot better if you retake the course, get an A, then attempt a transfer. Getting an A/F during two different sessions of a course pretty much proves that one of the two is a fluke. Hopefully, they’ll see the F as being the anomaly.

Quit being a ****** pinkerfloyd. He can apply to wherever he pleases. We all know how hard it is to get into UCLA for philosophy… NOT. Anyone could apply to UCLA and get in under your major.
