A real jackass idiot got into yale from my school over a better qualified asian. Do you think this guy got in because of his brother being there, or his rich parents (own a line of convenience stores) over his academic abilities. I only ask because i was 100% going to apply next year but am pretty mad right now.

Don't apply to Yale, come to Columbia!!!!

college is a crapshoot. Yes, the fact that his parents are rich (and likely influential) has something to do with it (I don't think his brother does). That being said, that policy is certainly not unique to Yale (every other school does that, too) and, also, it's possible that this "jackass idiot" looks almost as good or even as good on paper as the better qualified asian. It's really hard to tell, sometimes. Don't let that turn you off of Yale, or even get angry at Yale - cuz if that makes you angry, then every school should.

The guy was really into comm. service, which i guess i might underrate, and did have good SATs.

Well in light of what you just said, that's probably why he got in. What were the Asian's higher qualifications? Community service can be a huge asset, as it shows character, committment, and leadership. His parents money wasn't a factor unless they donated a new building or something.

An idiot with high SAT/SAT II ?

I can smell envy here

I mean, I think the azn still had higher SATs but its possible i underestimate comm. service. And I really doubt envy, since I am closer to the one that got in than the one that didnt.

Maybe the "idiotic" guy is good at something that the azn guy isn't. :]] There must be a reason why they choose him over the other guy. ^_^
