As the last few weeks of the releasing of college decisions approach, I have become increasingly grateful to the CC community. It is rare to find such supporting people, going out of their way to help others. While I was applying in the fall, a few older CC members (some college students, some parents) went out of their way to read and critique my essays - without compensation! This was so shocking to me, in a world where nearly nothing is free.
I didn’t know that people stressed out about college decisions as much as I did until I discovered CC. Here, I have discovered (the profiles of) people that are truly amazing in everyway. Seeing these smart, generous, nice people get rejected from their dream schools has in a way helped calm my fears - if I get rejected to my top choices, knowing that other people who deserved it more than I do did too will help to soften the blow.
That being said, my journey is almost over. In just two weeks or less, I will know in what direction I will start my future. In just about two weeks, all the brief anonymous friendships and kind words will cease. Most of us will no longer spend our time refreshing the “latest posts” button and stalking the threads of our dream colleges. We will move on with our lives, leaving the class of 2017 to take our spots on this forum.
So, thank you CC community for making my college application process that much easier. Thank you for connecting me with other people who stay up until the ridiculous hour of 3 AM, refreshing a housing application, searching for a glitch that will somehow magically reveal our acceptances. Thank you to people all over the world for offering your honest opinions, genuine support, and well wishes.
The college admissions process is probably one of the more stressful things I have endured. But thank you, fellow CCers, for making it bearable. I wish you all luck in the coming weeks!
