So I got a letter today telling me I have to take a test because I haven't taken any AP English courses or gotten a high enough score on my writing on the ACT or SAT to qualify me as passed the Entry Level writing requirement. So I was wondering what happens if I don't pass the test? Do I get my admissions revoked or do I just have to take a different writing class in the fall?

From the awpe website:
"During the examination, students will be required to read a passage and then write an essay responding to a single topic based on the content.

Students will be notified whether or not they have passed the exam in mid-June. Results of the exam will not affect a student’s admission to the University. Those who do not pass the examination can still satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement before enrolling in the University by achieving a satisfactory score on one of the tests listed above or by completing an acceptable college course in English composition with a grade of C or better.

Students who have not satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement at the time they enroll in their classes must take a writing course designated by their campus."

In other words, no, you just take a different writing class.

There’s like 3 different levels that they place you into.
- Highest: You’re start out taking Writing 39B or Humanities Core.
- You have to take writing 39A, and cannot enroll in HumCore (yet? not sure if you can)
- Basically for foreign students, you start out taking some Humanities writing class (NOT humcore) and then you are allowed to take Writing 39A.

I thought I did terrible on mine, but I ended up being able to take HumCore.
I’m also not super sure on if those are the 3 categories and pathways, because I’m too lazy to look for written evidence of this at the moment. But it should be the gist of it!

If you are exempt from taking the class (due to your SAT score, or AP, or otherwise) what class are you sorted into?

@ SprinkKnoT - did you get message on your UCI portal or it came with “snail mail”? Do you need to go to UCI to take the test and when? I looked for information and they have two different dates listed - 5/7 and 5/14. I have a feeling it is a /14 but i am not sure

I got a letter in the mail. I think the test is issued by the UC system rather then UCI. And it gave me a testing location which happened to be my SAT testing location.

Same as SprinkKnot. I got a notice in the mail and my testing location is in the same place I took my SAT Subject Tests.

got it yesterday. Testing is in my SAT test center also. Glad I do not have to go to SoCal for this
