Hi! Since my D started her admission process to getting in a boarding school, I have been an avid reader of CC. It helped me a lot as a parent, as I was very anxious about the process, and a newcomer to it. I got many tips that helped in the admission process and also in choosing the right school. Thank you to all of you. Now my daughter is happily enrolled and she will start school on August 30 I believe.
We are from abroad. In my country it is rare that kids to US to study at school. We will be very far away from D. I think that many of the American parents will be far from their kids as well as I could see in the visiting days. I wonder if there is one threads or many threads were parents as I can discuss about everyday stuff at boarding schools. To be honest, I am afraid about what is coming and a forum with parents that are in the same situation would be such a relief. Please understand me, I am very happy for my daughter’s decision, I think she is right, however I would appreciate having some support and sharing experiences.
Thank you again.
@lucynthesky, many parents post in the parents forum throughout the year on how their kids are doing at school and issues that they’re facing during the school year. There are probably actually more posts in the parents forum about everyday stuff at boarding schools than there are about the admissions process.
Welcome, @lucynthesky. You’re in the right place. Post here when you need support. This is where we parents hang. Many of us live far from our kids’s boarding schools. Our son is about 2,500 miles away from us so I understand what you’re feeling. This forum has been a lifesaver for me.
Welcome to CC @lucynthesky. Please feel free to post/comment in this forum. My son will start a school 1,900 miles away from home this fall.
@lucyinthesky: Welcome to the Parents’ Forum! Although my daughter chose a school that is only 90 minutes from home, it was still a big adjustment for me to have her be away during so much of the school year. So I can relate to how how you’re feeling! We’re all here to listen and support one another, so ask/post away!!
My DD will also be 1900 miles away. Fortunately, we chose a school with an airport very nearby and two direct flights each day! I know that I will miss her intensely, but I am more concerned about her younger sibs. I did take a look at the school calendar and there are lots of LONG breaks! Plus, we do have family on the East Coast which helps.
Welcome! I hope this forum will be as helpful for you as it has been for me.
Welcome! You are not alone here. I was a newbie 3 years ago and got a lot of great tips. Parents Forum also helped us choose the right school for my son who is thriving at his boarding school. Feel free to share your opinions and ask questions.
Far away from your daughter’s school, you will miss her perhaps more than the parents living in the States. But every new parent feel the same way to some extent. It is sometimes frustrating not to know how a child is doing in the first year. But time will solve many things and I am sure you should be able to share your experience with future newbies.
Thank you everybody! So Parents forum. There I go.
