A huge congratulations, 5boys. What terrific news!!

Fantastic news, 5boys! Congrats to your son! WONDERFUL news on the aid!!

Huge congratulations to your son, 5boys! I know what you mean about feeling like you won the lottery–Kenyon gave my daughter miraculous aid, and I’m still grateful. Your boy will love it, I’m sure. By the way, my boy’s only about 40 minutes away at Otterbein, so maybe we can grab lunch sometime at the Gambier Deli if we’re in Ohio for the same weekend. Hope your son and you both enjoy his senior year with the decision made. So happy for you both!

Congrats on Kenyon! My D looked into that school and it seems like a wonderful program. We were both a little sad when she decided it was just too rural for her liking. It really would be the perfect program for her otherwise. Alas, we live in the middle of nowhere PA and she is chomping at the bit to go somewhere bigger. I have to laugh, though, because her safety school is Ohio Wesleyan which isn’t exactly in a huge town. On the plus side, they gave her a large merit scholarship and now we are waiting to hear about a possible theater scholarship which would stack with merit. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations to Boy 5, 5boys!!! And a HALLELUJAH to the generous aid!

ctl987 - I think I PMed you but I am such a nube I’m not sure it went through.

Now that the problem is solved, I feel better about sharing my stupidity. I thought I was totally on the ball with the whole college app and audition thing until last night. My husband and I had just dropped D at youth group and were listening to the football game on the radio. The announcer started talking about which teams would play well in the February New Jersey weather. I looked over at my husband and asked the date of the Super Bowl. The answer? February 2. The date of D’s scheduled Pace auditions? February 1 & 2! There is nothing in this world that could make me travel 9 hours to NYC in the chaos that is the Super Bowl. Pace gets bonus points galore for letting D switch her audition date to March! And in a moment of perfect timing, D received Pace’s academic acceptence letter today with a very nice scholarship offer.

Amotherslove. You must have missed some of the threads on this very topic. They were amusing: along the lines of “Why do theatre people care when a football game is?” But yes the Super Bowl is in New Jersey this year, right outside the city, with lots of tourism expected in the city that weekend. Nothing could induce me to pay $400 a night to stay in a hotel full of drunken football fans either! We are going to Chicago. Glad you got yours worked out.
I had a little scare today too when we got an email from someone in the theatre design department at Boston University. He said I see your D is applying for performance but you have signed up for a portfolio review. You need to re-schedule your appointment for an audition. I was like “WHAT!!!” The audition is 3 weeks away! Surely all the spots are taken?! BUT, turns out it was a mistake and she is registered for an audition. Whew! We also got an email from Boston today about her application for scholarship. Seems like maybe Boston is reviewing some apps.

My first thought when I realized my blunder was, “How did I not read any thread on College Confidential about this?!” lol I have been lurking here for three years and never ran across the info. The only thing I can think of is that D is doing all of her auditions on campus, no Unifieds, so I never read those threads. I now know why CMU changed their audition dates this year (they are at NY Unifieds when they normally would have been doing auditions on campus).
I’m glad you got BU straightened out and with fantastic news about scholarships! I was born and raised in RI and have family in the Boston area. It is a wonderful city: historical, clean, friendly, accessible. I hope the weather cooperates (something that has given me much anxiety this audition season, lol) and tell your D to break a leg!

5Boys - sooooooo happy for your son. Oh, the pressure is just OFF!!! You have worked hard to help him sort through everything, and make this great choice for an ED school. Best of luck to you both.

Now you are in the same boat I was in last year. Cheering folks on and living vicariously through them as they go through the audition season. I enjoyed all the stories and sat on the edge of my seat when acceptances went out in the Spring, fingers crossed for all “our” kids. You will enjoy that piece of it (or should I say that “peace” of it! LOL).

To all others - knock 'em dead at auditions!

Thanks everyone! It has definitely been a great few days! S had a great time sharing the news with his friends and teachers. I think he was the talk of the college counseling office yesterday as he was an underdog, so they were all rooting for him…lol! I think he is going to thrive at Kenyon and be able to do all the things he wants to do. Such an amazing school, and I so did not picture him there at the beginning of this process.

Times3… that would be AWESOME!!! Love to have lunch with you… maybe it will work out at move-in in the fall… that is IF my DS doesn’t take a gap year. He is considering it. He is very young and will only be 17 when he would start, so I am okay with it if he chooses.

I am looking forward to having a relaxed holiday and for my DS to enjoy the break with his big brother who gets home Friday.

I can’t wait to hear more happy news from this group in the upcoming months!!!

So my DD got into Hofstra (one of 2 safety schools) with a substantial 4-year Presidential scholarship, which is an added bonus. No audition except for a Theatre scholarship. We’re still waiting on Rollins ED and she has to audition for Fordham, her other ED. We also made the mistake of scheduling her audition for 2/1 not realizing the SB was that Sunday. It took me a minute to realize why the hotels were sky high that weekend. She tried calling yesterday but they are closed for winter break. Hope we don’t have a problem rescheduling at this late date.

Ant thoughts on Hofstra’s theatre program? We only applied because close to NYC and received waived app fee. Now she’s kind of excited and intrigued about the school.

TheateeMom74 - This was the first time I ever booked a hotel right in the city and assumed prices were sky high because of its location. When D switched audition date and I changed hotel dates it was a great relief to see hotel price tag come down 50%!! To switch dates we called Pace AND sent an email “response” to the original Pace audition date confirmation. They never called me back but I did get an email with the audition date change by the end of the day. Good luck switching audition dates and tell D to break a leg at her auditions!

i know someone who was a BFA (theatre tech) at Hofstra a long time ago and had a good experience there. He worked his … off. More currently, I think Hofstra is known as having a decent although not big name program. it is close to NYC, which is a huge draw, is in a nice part of Long Island, has a vibrant enjoyable school vibe, and an easy train ride to Manhatten. if ur kid can visit campus and likes it, keep it on your list. it’s plusses may outweigh that it does not have the name reputation of NYU or Rutgers. it is very pricey though so make sure it’s affordable after scholarship is taken into account. I know a current student there(don’t think in theatre) who LOVES it., If you want, i can ask them for more details although they are such a huge fan, it will be a biased report!

Anyone else at Boston University today for auditions? We are. I’ll report back later on the audition day thread.

Look forward to your post, dramamom0804. We’ll be there in 3 weeks!

Go Terriers!

Break legs in Beantown, everyone!

Yes, good luck! We will be auditioning in NYC beginning Jan. 22…for NYU, Juilliard, BU, Purchase, Fordham, Rutgers and LAMDA, then in CA beginning Feb. 7 for Chapman, Calarts, USC and CMU. Now that it’s getting down to crunch time, I’M getting nervous. S is great, but a bit stressed, I think. Need to keep calm. Any and all info from others in the trenches is soothing. Knowledge is power, I guess. Then release it all and let the chips fall where they may. As of now, I still think there are things we can DO!!! LOL!

My D’s BU audition is from 2-5…will it last that long?

Thanks all. Everything went well for my D. Driving home now. I’ll post on the audition day thread tomorrow morning. Bisouu, I think yes it will take most of that time unless your D is one of the first couple of kids called to audition. Then you might be done by 4.
