It's officially begun!

First 2 app's submitted. UMinn and Southern Oregon. Here we go..............

WOOHOO!!! Congrats!

Put your arms up, folks! You’re goin’ down that first bigggggggggg hill on the roller coaster!

Yeah, go son #2!!! We;d have Minn on list too except kid wants to go somwhere warm, Great acting program from everything I’ve heard

U Minn looks like a fantastic program that satisfies my S’s academic side along with his acting side. It is a big school though, not exactly what he wants in that regard, but he applied anyway. He also has BU on his list, even though it is also a big school. NYU is off and on the list, but I am sure he will go ahead and audition. He still needs to research their different studios though. Chapman, right up the freeway from us, will be his first audition in Oct.

5boys…what day are you auditioning in October? And the Oxy day in November is available for registration :)

I believe it is Oct 26th at Chapman… and I did get the email from Oxy, just have to call to schedule him… probably tomorrow.

Facilites at Chapman were amazing. Not too close to home for him? And def not too big. Don’t know if you’ve been to Minneapolis yet. i was there, ahem, over 30 years ago  At any rate, if it’s still similar :), it did not come across as being as big as it really is. School is suppoesed to be huge though.

And now teh auditions, yikes… Tell him to break a leg from the Pa crew :).

Thanks ctl:) Progress today on the CA essay… still a LONG way to go though. He is such a unique and interesting kid, that I just hope he can capture that somehow…

Chapman is too close to home, and it is not his top choice, but he decided it would be a good place to start, and to practice auditioning. I did get some words of advice from someone last year that it is wise to not start with your top choices. He really doesn’t have a first choice yet anyway, but I don’t think Chapman, because it is so close to home, will be a true contender.

And you’re off! When my S received his first MT auditon confirmation I felt a little stunned…“wow this is really happening”

Have fun everyone! The most unnerving, exhilarating experience to live through.

I think I’m going throw up!

I’m already freaking out about how to handle rejections (yes, I always think ahead)! I don’t want to be that parent calling to shout “OH SO YOU THINK MY KID ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOUR TIRED LITTLE PROGRAM!!!” My guess is that PROBABLY isn’t the preferred approach. HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!! I’m excited, though, for all the seniors embarking on this journey.

GSOMTMom, it is so hard. The rejections are part of the process but it KILLED me!! However, the acceptances were so sweet, they made the rejections (almost!) bearable.

I’m heartbroken when she doesn’t get the role she auditioned for, so I know I’ll be crushed, but I’m glad to hear that the acceptances will help ease the pain (for me anyway)!

Which program at UMinn did you all apply to? The BA or the BFA?

@parachuteboy…he applied for the BFA, but would probably be happy with the BA as well. It is just a WAY bigger college than he wants. It looks like they have rolling admissions, so hopefully after his GC sends his transcripts, he should know pretty soon about the college decision, but of course he will have to wait for auditions to see about the BFA.

GSOMTMom- I think the rejections were harder on me. Our kids have been through rejections for roles and have been told numerous times they will get more rejections than yeses. I think they are better prepared than us and we never want to see our children hurt and I think we take it more personally where they already get it’s not necessarily them - it could be something as simple as a look or style.

Parachute boy and 5boys. U Minn is very quick with admission decisions. My older son applied there for chemical engineering 2 years ago. We finished our app by late September and he had an acceptance in his hand by late October. It did not include the scholarship information though. The early acceptance made his whole applying to college experience really nice; U Minn was his second choice and he felt he would be happy there, so waiting for the others was much easier.

That’s great to hear, I live very close to the UMinn so a plan I have is to audition for the BFA and if I don’t get in then opt for the BA, with consideration of other schools as well. I can tell you as a member of the “Twin Cities” it’s a great city, it’s got excellent theatre it’s big but you don’t feel overwhelmed. I can’t speak about the campus specially but this area is terrific.
