Andison is in at Brandeis! With huge scholarship!

Andison is a pianist if I'm not mistaken.....so now go exercise those fingers...

congratulations andi and andison! After all you've been through, this is much deserved happiness!

Sorry for coming late to the party . . . congratulations to Andison! This is more great news. I have not been tracking all of the acceptances but I recall that he was also accepted to WPI so there will be plenty of difficult decisions to make.

Cannot begin to express how very pleased & happy I am for you and your son! It's beginning to feel like.... okay, the world may not be a askew as it seemed for a while...YAY! And the next life lesson will be the contentment of knowing how difficult decisions can be... if we're honest, there is no one better student & no one better school....
Congrats to all our graduates, applying to college is such a vulnerable place to put yourself nowadays. Here's to the courageous... to which group you & your son have double billing!!!!

Yay!!! Belated felicitations--but all the warmer.

Andi, I know that the Brandeis admission and scholarship is just the beginning...there are a lot more options coming along for Andison this year! Congratulations to both of you!!!!!!

Andi- I bookmarked your post about your son's experiences, with the shocking admissions' outcomes, when I first found CC last fall. I can say in retrospect it was enormously helpful to hear that side of the potential outcomes. It guided my dd and me in formulating her final college list. Thank-you again for that!
I am SO happy for you both at this wonderful result. Good luck on the final choice!

that's one of the first things he did- play a celebratory song!

Thanks again everyone!!!!!! I'm enjoying watching all your outcomes as well!
The list is getting ridiculously long- and that's good :)

i too have followed the story and want to add my shout out. This is great news. As tough as this has been on your son (and all of you) he will no doubt be stronger for it. and so -- since we're talking about brandeis -- mazel tov!

Cogratulations to Andi and Andison and Thanks to the moderators for letting us all break the rules.

When I joined CC, your post was the first thing I read, and I've been following your progress... asdlkfjas;dlfkjasfsadsufasldfhalsidufh i cant even type i'm so happy!!!! its about gosh darn time andison got recognized for his work!!!!

andi,

Just like others, your "warning" thread was the first I read on CC. Just blew me away. Later, after I began to recover somewhat, I spent time talking with my son about your son's experience. Your son not only can feel excited about the good things happening to him now, but know that you guys turned your sorrow into helping save a whole lot of other kids by sharing your story. We all have been waiting to hear this good news (knowing that we WOULD!).

SENDING YOU MY HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi Andi...

Just tuned in and glad I did.
Congrats!!!!!!! (patience did pay off).

Could be more coming too:)

Just one more voice.. I'm really happy to read this good news.

As for this:
"Once your son is at Brandeis for a semester or two, if he does well academically, he should send a letter to all the schools that rejected him with a copy of his transcript, noting that something was indeed wrong with the admission's process. "

Reminds me of the following, which is from an interview with former Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin:

"You tell a delightful story about when you, I guess in your senior year at Beach High, you had applied to Princeton and were rejected. When you graduated from Harvard you thought that it might be interesting to write to the Dean of Admissions at Princeton and let him know…I assume it was a him…that, and I’ll quote here, “I thought you might be interested to know what happened to one of the people you rejected. I just wanted to tell you that I graduated from Harvard Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.” The book goes on, “The Dean wrote me back, ‘Thank you for your note. Every year, we at Princeton feel it is our duty to reject a certain number of highly qualified people so that Harvard can have some good students too!’” "

Andi! This is such wonderful news The Leonard Bernstein Award at Brandeis--in a strange way this Honor may seem much more sweeter this year than if it happened last year. I am a firm believer that sometimes things happen for a reason and eventually work out the way they are supposed to. Your family deserves all the best.

Thanks again to all of you!

nopoisonivy - thanks "your" happy ending was inspirational.

Monydad lol thanks for sharing that!!!! Hilarious!!!

Andi, is your son waiting on any more college decisions?

Andi and Andison! Congratulations!! This news about Brandeis is so wonderful. We are all so happy for you. I want you to know that a student of mine was so inspired by Andison's experience that she (1) applied to many more schools that she had originally planned, and (2) is completing an enormously satisfying gap year before attending Smith College. Among your well-wishers, supporters and outright fans, the gap year has become a magnificent option for the transition between the intensity of high school to the foreverness of college and adulthood opportunities/responsibilities. Our high-school sophomore d has the good fortune of dreaming of gap-year activities before college, a path that was beyond our radar before the saga of Andison. From this experience, the two of you have become role models--Andi in her wisdom, compassion and resourcefulness and Andison in his own wisdom and resilience when faced with the impossible.

Andi and son, your story has been the most useful I've encountered on cc, and it truly touched me, trying to imagine how difficult the end of hs was for this bright talented young man.....I'm sure to make it required reading for my young niece and nephew. Actually agree should be required for kids, their parents, and their guidance counselors.

Never had any doubt things would work out for the best.....and somehow andison will be better for the whole ordeal.

Congratulations to the whole family!!! sure to be more good news...

taxguy this year he put together a very balanced list where he focused on schools that covered a broad spectrum of selectivity. It would have been unwise for him to apply to only three places. Per advice of interesteddad and others, the focus of his list was NOT the super duper reach schools. This year's list started out with eight schools that included two unreachables, one of which he applied to last year, and two that were likely to accept a student if he just plain and simple met their grade/test requirements. At the very end, a friend, home from one of the unreachables from last year's list persuaded him to give it another shot and he did- knowing that it was not going to take away any of his time and energy from his main applications.

From our experience I wouldn't advise anyone to apply to a huge number of unreachable schools just to increase the odds of getting in. First, if you're a really busy kid, there just isn't the time in life to invest in spending on so many applications and still doing a good job. Life's too short and second, there are some amazing schools out there that may have exactly what you're looking for and some of them may be quite literally right near your doorstep.
