another chance thread

well, here goes

SAT I : 1870 , 1st try will go to about 2300
SAT II's : 690 Biology and 700 on US History, 1st try, this will go up
GPA: my school doesn't rank us at all, so they never give me a gpa, i have all A's in my high school career except one B
Applying from Mississippi
Took university and ap classes, made a five on the ap euro exam
my new school is very rigorous and is on an actual college campus
I changed schools to go to a school for the gifted funded by the goverment in MS so i went to this school starting my junior year in hs.
I don't have a lot of ec's but everything that i do, does pertain to the whole interational relations/foreign service type model
I visit china every summer
just putting my sat scores aside, i'm also chinese american who wants to major in political science, does that boost my chances at all, i know this doesn't give you guys a great picture but college apps is driving me insane and i really have no confidence into getting into an ivy

unless your SAT scores go up ridiculously, i dont think you have a chance...being chinese hurts your chances.

gee thanks, at least you were blunt about it, thanks for bein honest

If you don't have ECs, you better go to a state school. You're not getting into an Ivy w/o ECs unless you're brilliant.

I don't think you'll get in.

thanks for all the feed back

If you can get your SAT up as high as you are wanting to (which would be the biggest increase I've ever seen) then I think you'd have a chance. I would also retake the SAT IIs if you're serious about gettin in. Good luck.

Dude, everyone... goodness. Let's not just be so blunt and critical. EVERYONE, any person applying to any school, has a chance of being admitted. It's just that some people have better chances than others... For you, crazyace, I wouldn't say you have "good" chances. But you still do have a chance... Don't lose hope.

So you are an MSMS dude eh? Yeah I almost decided to go there but realized it wasnt important enough for me to move to the middle of nowhere and be bored all the time. It is nice to know though that there are actually some other people in Mississippi who want to go outside of the Deep South. Aside from that, it looks kind of skeptical to get a 1800 on the SAT and then believe you will get a 2300. But if you did happen to get that score up there, I would say you have an all right chance, looking at the statistics of other Columbian applicants. I think the fact that you are from Mississippi will definitely help you, especially if you were affected by Hurricane Katrina, knowing Columbia's record for wanting diversity. The main thing is that SAT and the lack of ECs.
