Another "chances of getting in" thread.

Since it seems that every single person I talk to has a completely different opinion on what colleges I have a chance of getting into, I figured posting a few threads here (I am posting this thread in a few sections and I'm new to this, so please don't chew my head off if I seem like a noob) couldn't hurt.

I know its long, but I really want a clear assesment of my actual chances of getting accepted to Claremont McKenna. Thanks in advance :)

The good news: Your GPA puts you in the top 10%, which is a good thing, though it is by no means "stellar".

The bad: CMC is extremely competitive (16-17% admit rate I think), and your SAT scores are simply too low. This doesn't mean you won't get in, but it doesn't seem like you have a good shot. However, if you study, you can definitely get your scores up, which would improve your chances. There are some great success stories here on CC about SAT score improvements, and you could really benefit with another 100-200 points. Breaking 2000 would be a very realistic goal, and I bet you could get 2100 with some hard work. Don't fret too much though, a 3.6 with a 1930 will get you into some great schools.

Maybe... I think you have a better shot than FreeFree made it sound. By no means is this a safety for you. It is difficult for anyone to consider CMC anything but a stretch. Apply. Like FreeFree said, it will be worth your time to sit down with an SAT practice book. Some more points will do you good. I think you are definitely in the running.

I don't think I'm being unrealistic. As it currently stands, I think she has very little chance. But if she cracks open the Collegeboard Bluebook and really studies judiciously, I think, depending on her results, she could have a good chance. I can say that I probably would not have been accepted to my current school if I hadn't studied the SAT. I would guess that the OP is under the 25th percentile at CMC in terms of test scores. As a non-URM, non-recruited athlete, that makes it quite a long shot. Bring the scores up, and the chances get better.

I'm not BS'ing about success stories on the SATs either. I know people with 300-400 point increases after studying. I went up 80 points on CR alone. You can do it, that is, if you really want too! (It was a little bit painful, not gonna lie...I got sorta pale)

I think it'd be a worthwhile endeavor- it wouldn't increase her chances just at CMC, but at all the schools on her list.

i tend to agree with freefree more than elizzan

cmc cares most about sat/ecs for admission, moreso than even gpa... get the SATs up and you stand a chance, otherwise probably not

definitely a reach. i encourage you to apply, but do not have your heart set on this school until SAT scores come up or you become involved with something super amazing (like headline grabbing, "omigosh i can't believe a high schooler did this!"). either of those things happening will boost your chances.

I visited at CMC today and was told that SAT subject tests are not even looked at. Wouldn't worry about that 600 as such.
