Another Low Score/Good GPA - Chance Me?!?

<p>Hey, before I start this, I just want to shout out to Alleviate and HanSolo218 for being awesome and stfub4ipunchyouinthetitays. and you CCHS CC lurkers, stop lurking. </p>

<p>So basically, I'm pretty nervous for UF decisions. I plan on majoring in Computer Science, and minoring in Theatre. Maybe even a double major in Computer Science and Theatre? (I doubt it lol)
I think I got a damn good application, except my SAT/ACT scores.
Before I tell you my scores, let me tell you about the rest of my application.
I'm gonna use the format used for accepted students to give you a background of my app.</p>

<p>Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.3, Weighted UF = 4.2
Rank: Top 15%, 98 out of 763 :/ lmao
Total number of academic classes (use your fingers, lol): 7
Total number of AP classes: 3
IB student (Yes/No): Yes (no my username has nothing to do with the IB program, hahaha)
Senior year course load: 6 IB classes, 1 elective</p>

<p>Extracurricular activities (position in parenthesis):
Drama Club 10th-12th (currently Parliamentarian)
International Thespian Honor Society (also Parliamentarian)
Business Professionals of America 9th-11th (Vice President)
National Honor Society - 10th-12th</p>

<p>Job/Work experience: N/A (maybe if I had a license, or maybe even a permit! lmao!)</p>

<p>Volunteer/Community service (list your total overall hours, too): I spent a Summer (390+ hours) at Boys & Girls Club in an area that had many low-income children. I supervised activities, and created educational plans to help keep the children mentally active so when the school year comes, they were well prepared for their course material.</p>

<p>Honors, awards, or recognitions:
Pantomiming - Portrayal of human emotion and experience through physical motion, with the exclusion of human voice or audible noises.
Best in Show Pantomime Scene, 2010 District V Thespian Festival
3rd Place CCHS Operation Smile Talent Show 2009</p>

<p>Essay (be honest): I thought my essay was really good. Talked about how Theatre changed me as a person and the way I look at the world. Here's a quote: "On the stage, I am a young man with a character, and in return, off the stage, I segue into a characterful young man." Ok maybe it souns</p>

<p>State or Country: Florida (In-State)
Ethnicity: African American (My parents are both Ethiopian! :D)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket (low, middle, or high): lower-middle. about 55k per year here
Hooks (URM, first generation college, legacy, etc.): URM + first generation college. both of my parents didnt even complete high school due to political revolution and conflict in Ethiopia during their teenage years.</p>

<p>Ok here's the scores now.</p>

<p>SAT: 1760 M:630 CR:560 W:570
ACT: 25 W:23 M:27 R:24 S:25</p>

<p>I applied Summer B, and it seems as if I'm in the middle 50% of Summer B students from 2010.
But on the other hand, I've heard that UF looks at you in retrospect to others that apply at your school, and I'm so sure that more than 70% of the people in my IB Senior Class of 90+ students have 1800+ SATs. :/</p>

<p>Chance me, and be honest. You telling me that its unlikely that I will be accepted won't like rip me apart or anything haha, I've been accepted to FSU, UCF, and USF so far, so I have other choices. Also, don't just be like, YOU'RE IN, YEAAHHH UHUH YOU KNOW WHAT IT ISSSS BLUE AND ORANGE BLUE AND ORANGE BLUE AND ORANGE BLUE AND ORANGE lmao.</p>

<p>If I forgot to fill something on this out, or I have a typo, it's because I did this in like 5 minutes, and I have too many tests to study for right now haha. Thanks for reading (and chancing hopefully!!).</p>

<p>Trust me people have told me im not getting in lol. And I have the same GPA as you, tough to here from people who aren’t admission officer, so it doesn’t make me loose hope. I think you can get in. You have a good ACT score, the req for summer is 24. Your SAT is good to, but Ive never really looked at SAT, I always look at ACT lol. Your GPA is good, most people on here would tell you it to low and blah blah blah. UF looks at each applicant based on everything. SO don;t worry about scores and GPA’s. Your essay sounds awesome, and you have a ton of EC’s, so I would say you have a great chance of being accepted. I;m not going to say your in, because I don’t know, and I don’t want to be that guy who says yeah our in! And then what happens, if you dont get in? :confused: Not saying that your not though. All I’m saying is you have awesome stats! so good luck and I hope you get in!:slight_smile: not counting this weekend lol we have 1 week and 4 days left!</p>

<p>okay ive been lurking around the UF thread lately and what is Summer B?
is it like apply to UF but starting in the summer?
are your chances greater if you apply for summer B?</p>

<p>Summer B is starting school in the summer which i believe is in july, i think. It’s june or july. Well apparently to UF it doesnt matter what term you apply. If you have high test scores youll probabyly be accepted for fall. Lower test scores are probably summer or spring. But once again, it’s based on where UF wants to place you, and where they feel you should go. Hope i helped! and good luck!!:)</p>

<p>I think you have a really good chance despite your SAT/ACT scores. The other information you have provided, looks very impressive and well-rounded. And thats what UF wants; “A well-rounded student”, and not just a student who makes straight A’s but isnt involved in any EC’s. Best of Luck! :)</p>
