another question!

so i started applying for UCONN through the common app. I wanted to put the Hartford branch as my first choice but it doesn’t have my major (computer science). I thought that you can go 2 years at a branch (until it doesn’t have the classes you need to take) and then transfer to storrs.

I looked at what CSE courses the Hartford campus offers. It looks like they only offer Introduction to Computing for Engineers (CSE 1010). This is a requirement for all students in the engineering school (including computer science). You would have to do a campus change after your first semester to take more CSE classes. I’m not know how major selection works on the application, but you may have to select undecided-engineering if you want Hartford to be your first choice. Be aware that the CSE department at Storrs is a little flooded with students, and they’ve gotten more selective with who can switch into their majors. You would have to find out this information from another user or from UConn.

Additionally I recommend reconsidering making a branch campus your first choice if you plan on being a CS or CSE major. Attending Hartford campus is problematic for the reasons stated in my previous paragraph. In your second semester you’ll take CSE 1102 (maybe, there are upcoming changes to the introductory curriculum). I have not heard good things about how CSE 1102 is handled at other branch campuses. After your freshman year you would have to change to the Storrs campus.

I’m a CS major, so I can answer any major specific questions that can’t be answered on the department website.
