I am having such a tough time trying to decide. I have always wanted to get away from where I am now and go to CA...and I got into the Critical Studies at USC. However I also got into NYU's Gallatin School.

I am looking for some advice, maybe from someone who is in Gallatin or has some opinion on this subject..how do you like it, what would be the advantages, etc.

I do want to do film: I said in my app. to NYU that I was hoping for a degree reflecting Cinema Production Management...

However, some things about me are that I change my mind a lot and am not 100 percent sure I want to study film..but as for right now (and the last two years) it has been my main field of interest..

just a question as to why u applied to gallatin and not tisch? and if you're gonna be changing your mind, i would select gallatin, cuz it's very flexible [the school of individualized study?], whereas at USC film, you're goin for film for the whole four years, unless you transfer elsewhere

Yeah, I second the question as to why Gallatin and not Tisch for film. That makes no sense, really, except for the fact that you say you change your mind. Anyway, in Gallatin you won't be able to take the same film classes as majors anyway so it's difficult to compare it with USC.

My son who is focused about what he wants to study got accepted at Tisch for Dramatic Writing. I think in Gallatin you are able to be more flexible, as you stated you are not sure about what you want to persue so Gallatin seems like a great choice for you. Also, Tisch I think is very difficult to get into, so it may have be wise to apply to Gallatin instead of risk not getting into Tisch. In my sons school only 1 made it into Tisch ED out of 8 and they other 7 were very qualified.
Unfortunately, my son did not make it into his first choic, the elite screenwriting program at USC and was bumped into his 2nd choice - Critical Studies. He still is on the fence, so I called USC and spoke to Peter in Critical Studies who was wonderful and informative. He said Critical Studies was very flexible. You took 1/3 of your classes in GE, 1/3 in Critical Studies major and 1/3 in electives - a certain percentage outside the Film Cinema school. Also, you could choose your specialty in Critical Studies, and my son could choose screenwriting so we were very happy to to hear this. My son is also quite a talented actor (at least to me his mom ) and he could take some of his electives in theater. I really liked the flexiblity though he is driven to screenwriting and I am hoping he choose USC though he is going to Saturday in the Square and the USC open house before he chooses.
I hope I helped you a bit. I would call Gallatin like I called USC. If you are unsure about what you want to do - something film related, both schools are an excellent fit for you so you should probably factor where you want to be after graduation. If it is NY, well, the jobs are there and internships to help you decide, in LA same thing.

Thank you, ebayispayingforcollege! Congrats to your son, by the way, that's a great accomplishment. And thank you for all the USC insight--I took a small Critical Studies summer course last summer there and I found it so engaging, I just wasn't sure where I could end up after I had such a degree.

Like mentioned, I applied to Gallatin because Tisch is so very selective and I don't want a conservatory-style education!

It's virtually impossible to directly compare these two schools, I understand, but I was hoping for some insight into Gallatin that might help me decide which utterly different path I could steer my life down.
