What's so great about this course? All I can find out there is from the reviews below. Why are so many people taking it and why are so many people on the waitlist?

Why did the registrar have so many people on the waitlist in the first place? Are classes always like this here where there are like 100 people on the waitlist? What happens to all these people?

do people get in off the waitlist? Because that is a lot of people on the waitlist? who sets the registration numbers for the class? I mean the registrar did a crap job if that put nearly a 100 people on the waitlist when its 100% likely that no on the waitlist will get in.

in the spring 09 term, it looks like people got off the waitlist.
and dont be ignorant beold37, lecture was capped at 255 for spring 09 while it is capped at 408 for winter 10 so the money is actually going somewhere

I’m saying if the class is capped at 408 then why have a waitlist in the first place? What’s the point? It’s obvious nobody is going to get in. So why don’t we use the money from the fees increases to open another section or find more room? Obviously, with 255 you can add people with 408, not a chance.

There’s no all encompassing waitlist for the class. In reality you are only waitlisted for each specific discussion session which only goes up to 3 so if you are in position 3/3 you just have to hope that 3 people in that section drop the course before the deadline to be enrolled.
The waitlist goes away after some deadline (I think it might be the add class deadline) and anyone not officially enrolled is dropped.

so it all goes down to luck with the waitlist, since there are only 17 people in each section, so you could have higher chance of getting in one section then another depending where you are on the waitlist. Why even put up to 3 people on the waitlist? I mean this class isn’t even popular or fun compared to other classes but we have a larger waitlist here and more people taking it then other classes. but the better classes take everyone because the professor is cool like that.

has anybody ever gotten into a course like this? Do a lot of people drop on the first day if they find it boring or if they find out there is a lot of work required for the course?

people just sign up for a course because there are no reviews on bruinwalk. they’ll find out what a mistake it is once they take the class and can’t drop. don’t worry about not getting in. if you can’t get in this quarter, wait till the next, because probably a better professor might teach it.

this class is so funny. no one knows what she is talking about and she says things without even clarifying them in the first place. TA sections consists of students saying how language tells so much about a person and that they never thought about whatever we read in the article for that day. a group of people in front of me just stormed out after talking with each other saying something like they weren’t going to take a class that was seemingly random to them and had no present or future value to them at all.

what?!? i love this class! I usually don’t get bored until the last 15 minutes, just because 1 hr 15 is a long lecture to sit through for me. The professor is hilarious, too! The readings are a little boring, but hey, I mean, the readings for most classes are pretty dull, so that’s no big deal.
