Is it hard to get into the UC’s with anthropology as a major? I am applying to all the UC’s besides Merced and Santa Cruz and I was wondering if I had a good shot at the other UC’s. I have a weighted GPA of 3.88 and unweighted 3.76. I also have a ton of extra circulars (sport captain, key club, csf, volunteering), and I would say that my personal statements are pretty strong. My SAT was 1430…Is anthropology a competitive major to get accepted into and what are my chances?
Is your GPA, your UC GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Is your SAT score of 1430 out of 1600 or 2400?
All UC’s are competitive for all majors, but is Anthropology a major you are really interested in or a major you think you can apply for as an easy admit?
My UC GPA is a 3.9. The 1430 is out of 2400, and I am actually interested in the major.
wait nevermind it may be a 3.86
Your UC GPA is below average for all the UC’s on your except Riverside and your SAT score is 300-400 points below average for UCSC and UCR. I highly suggest you apply to UCM/UCR/UCSC since the rest of the UC’s will be reaches unless you bump up scores into the 1900 range at the minimum. Also look at some Cal States as back up schools.
Sorry, typing on my phone but I meant to say “Your UC GPA is below average for all the UC’s on your list except UC Riverside.”
Here is a link for the UC GPA and SAT/ACT score averages for all UC’s from last year to give you an idea of your chances.

Anthropology should be in the College of Letters and Sciences (or whatever it is called), so it is easier than something like engineering.
However, your SAT really hurts you for the UC’s. I would consider retaking it or taking the ACT if you want to get into a UC.
Extra curriculars don’t matter as much for the UC’s, as UCR/UCSC/UCM are primarily focused on stats.
I would strongly advise you apply to UCSC and UCR, and add other colleges.
Did you retake the SAT on Saturday, or are you registered for December?
