I need some more eyes to look at it because the only trustworthy English teacher at my school just retired (seriously, the only other English teacher that I know spent most of last year in a mental hospital, and his class consisted of him telling us answers on our assignments).

I need some brutal editors that can also give me an idea of the holistic "feel" of my essay. It's for the main Common App part of my app, with a topic of my choosing.

I PM'd you sgtpepper08, thanks! I appreciate the offer michael92, but I feel more comfortable asking already admitted people to help me out. I hope you understand where I'm coming from :-).

WishyWashy and confused_vnese, is there any chance you could PM me your email addresses? Me essay is too long to be PM'd unless I split it up...that's one of the things I need help with actually - trimming it down, hehe

Of course, I'm sure there's many other things that are wrong with it....gahhh, Yale makes me feel so inadequate :-D

my essay for the commonapp (not the supplement) is well over 800 words (ahhh!) and I really can't find much more to trim out without the essay being compromised (in my eyes at least). I know there was a big thread about whether or not the main essay could/should be over 500 words, but I definitely don't want to push it all the way past 800.

My supplement essay isn't exactly finished yet (I live life on the edge, hehe), but I don't expect to go over 500 words.

My Common App essay was ~850 words. They don't give you a definite number for that but as long as it is interesting, I think you'll be fine. However, your Suppl must be ~500 as per the directions.

My supplement is right at 1/2 page (420 words) and my main essay is exactly one page long at 863 words (with some slightly modified margins so there wouldn't be a single line on page 2). Both are single spaced. I get the feeling that 2 pages double spaced is perfectly fine, but then again, I'm applying too so what do I know. :-)
