I, like everybody else, want to get into an Ivy League college, specifically Brown, Harvard, UPenn, or Yale. My mom went to Brown, which can help. I have been to two summer camps at Brown (awesome experience), and I fell in love with the place. I even want to play basketball to increase admission chances. Basketball is a passion of mine, so it would be more work, but not harder( if that makes sense). I am only a sophomore and have not taken the SAT yet (will take in fall), so don't chew me out on it! Also, I have about 20 inventions (not all fully-functional prototypes- just detailed designs and info.) that I will "sell" this summer/ work with company in nearby city. I am NOT in it for prestige, just a good education. I'm also interested in Caltech, Duke, MIT, and Wake Forest for biomedical engineering. Please help me out and Happy Easter!!! :)

With only your freshman/sophomore year GPA to go on, it’s hard to tell whether or not you stand a chance of admission to Brown or any other top tier school. However, you certainly seem to be on the right track. Come back with SAT or ACT scores and it’ll be much easier to give you an idea of where you stand.

I appreciate your comments-they wee kind and insightful. I know it is tough to chance me w/o any SAT/ACT scores, but you allayed some of my fears. Thank you!

xSteven, I was only going by a common stereotype (I realize that not every single kid in the world wants to go to an Ivy), but I mentioned that I was interested in Caltech, MIT, Duke, and Wake. Thanks for your input though!

We’re going to need to know race, income, and more test scores before we can make some more “accurate” assessments but however, you’re doing pretty well for yourself. Keep it up and you might be able to make it into Brown with that legacy status of yours. Good luck to you! Btw, I do LD debate as well :D.

Thanks Black’s Law (L-D Rocks!!!). I am expected to make around 2200 for the SAT on my first attempt. I am white, but I am full blooded Greek (father came to USA in 70s; mother lived in Greece as well). I would consider my family to be middle-class(or what is left of it), I feel blessed that I can go to arguably the best school in my state even in these tough times.

I am getting a good vibe from everybody on my chances at Brown, but what about other Ivies? My uncle went to Columbia and Harvard, does that help me? My mom turned down UPenn and we are very similar in activites and interest, how does that bode for me(but that was in 1980)? Thanks for the good advice!

First, thank you for chancing me. In my humble opinion you are in pretty good shape. Your GPA is great, however the fact that it was achieved in non-advanced classes (I know it wasn’t your fault) might give it less weight.

I think you should “capitalize” on inventing. If you gain any success with any of your inventions, you can definitely use this as a hook. I don’t think there are many teenage inventors, so colleges will be intrigued.

I really don’t think we will be able to chance for sure until you get your SAT scores.

Finally, Ivy Leagues are crap-shoots for basically everyone. However, if you write a knock-out essay (I think inventing might be a good topic), get good SAT scores, and good recommendations, I think you would have an above average chance at getting into the Ivy League (especially Brown, because you are a legacy)

Thanks for chancing me evilspartan92! I will defintiely capitalize on my inventions, and I agree that it is not an everyday sight at an Ivy. I hope that I don’t get penalized for my school not allowing me/ not offering more advanced classes. The Ivies drive us crazy with their twisted admissions process, where everybody wants in but does not know how to get in! Thanks for your help evilspartan92 and monroylobo!

Since you still have a lot of time I will suggest that you got to [■■■■■■■■■■■■■ - Home](http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■.com) and search some of the schools you want to go to so that you can see what others students got to get in.

Good stuff, you are on the right track but i would like to know about this Debate- Best record in school history, Best L-D debator, no state awards etc to show for it (Pssh debate, Student Congress is where it’s at ^_^)?
