Any chance?

Hello all!*

I am just about done with my UT application. All that is left is my essays... I am really worried about my chances of acceptance. I would consider my self to be a fairly bright kid but not smart enough (at least on paper) that a UT admissions officer would approve my application. Im looking to be a music education or performance major. I truly excell when it comes to music. I think this will definitely help my application. I hear it is hard to get accepted if you don't make the top 8% cut. My sat scores are about average. I would take them again but I missed the deadline for the December test. I don't know if I could take it in January and update my scores. Would that even be allowed? Here are my stats... They are nothing compared to the ones you guys post here... But here it goes.

GPA: 3.63
SAT: 1610
Rank: 24 of 216 (top 11%)
Courses: I have taken AP US History, AP World History, AP English and all of my underclassmen courses were taken as Pre AP if it was available. I am currently taking AP Gov./Eco., AP Biology and several dual credit classes including*english comp, statistics and college algebra.
EC's: very involved in fine arts.
Marching Band- all four years. Served as section leader, squad leader and drum major/field commander
Symphonic band- I have been first stand/first chair all four years
Art Honor Society- I have been a member for three years and I'm currently the secretary. I compete in local art shows*
Theater- I am a member of my schools varsity production team and have done a couple of musicals*
NHS- member for three years
Student Council- committee officer
Church youth group- member
Community service: involved in church community initiatives and do several projects with NHS each year. I listed several of them on my resume

Accomplishments: I have made the all region and all area wind ensembles every year so far...
I am a two year all state band member.
I have received a superior rating in all solos at regional *uil s&e contest and qualified for the state contest where I also received superior ratings.
I was named a TSSEC outstanding performer- only 220 were chosen out of 85000 students who entered the contest.
I have several more music awards.
For academics I don't have nearly as many. But I do have some "top GPA" awards for a couple of courses, academic honor roll, music scholar and few others.

And last but not least I'm Hispanic... Don't know if that helps any.

My transcript is scattered with a's and b's... There are a couple of c's which only appear in two courses... Chemistry and geometry which were both Pre AP.

I don't know if the university considers special talents like music. I do plan to do essay c to strengthen my application.. I don't think I'll have any trouble getting into the music school.

So what do you think?

Oh and by the way I submitted a resume and three recomendation letters from my AP English teacher, head music director, and my counselor.

May I ask how you sent in your resume and recommendations?

My school mailed them in a large envelop to the office of admissions. Each of the letters were sealed separately in smaller envelops signed at the seal by my teachers…
