For Fall 06 transfer which schools have accepted you so far?

Cal Poly Pomona and CSULA :D in Electrical Engineering

so far, accepted to all CSUs I applied - East Bay, L.A., S.F., and S.D.
wait, wait, 100% acceptance? woot! (j/k)
hoping for the same results for the UCs. (not j/k)

Yeah.. CSU system is very generous about accepting students... I wish UCs do the same thing

By the way, what is your GPA and major?

oh, i forgot to add san jose for the CSUs. i'm a legacy though, so it was a lock. ;)

kev101,
I am a history major, 3.7 gpa w/ igetc and aa this spring.
my major gpa was like 3.8 before, but i dropped one class (B) and substituted another (A) that fit, so 4.0 now.

Buerre, you should look into the U.C's.. you're already in all the CSUs with your gpa...

As long as you finish IGETC it's like a 1000000000% sure thing you'll get in. Cause there's no where to go after a 2 year college except for a 4 year university so CSUs have to pretty much accept anyone thats finished their IGETC.

i have applied to UCLA, SD, and B. the CSUs were safeties, although, i was very surprised that each accepted me within a few weeks. it was quite the ego boost. recently, i decided to not attend the CSUs, instead i'll attend rutgers or hunter college if not accepted to UC... hoping for UCLA!

i also got in all the CSU's i applied to so far. since my GPA isnt that good at 2.5, i would've gone to any CSU that accepted me, but got accepted so far at SFSU, SOnoma, Sacramento, Long Beach, Northridge, San Bernardino, SJSU. still waiting on Fullerton and SDSU. i havent applied to any UC's, but is it probably unrealistic to get in a UC since my gpaP is only 2.5?

rly,
even at 2.5, i would try for a uc, esp. with a transfer agreement.
do you have igetc and your lower division classes completed?
maybe i would try to raise the gpa to at least a 2.8-3.0 first and write a good essay for best chance.

but, as a resident you only need a 2.4 for UCSB http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionProcess.asp?selectiontype=prospective_transfer
:) go ahead, apply for the fee waiver this year and then pick a few campuses that offer the best chance for admission. good luck!

I seriously see no reason why any competitive student would want to transfer to a CSU except maybe SLO (or Pomona). Getting in a UC is much easier as a transfer....

Buerre: what the hell is wrong with you picking CSUs with a 3.70 GPA? go to UCLA or something sheesh

thanks for the help. i previously went to another CSU and now currently at a CCC. i just assumed it would be easier to apply to another CSU since about 1/2 of my 70 or so units are from a CSU. also been focusing on the CSU GE transferrable courses and not IGETC, how much of a difference is between them? i know i'd have to take an additional eng 1b class, not sure of the other requirements

Rly723-
i believe the only differences between the csu or uc igetc are speech/oral communication (CSU only), health (CSU only), and 2 semesters of a foreign language (UC only).

Citan-
guess i'm just slow. :) actually, i applied to the CSUs because I think some offer a quality education and there are a lot of campuses. when it came down to it, i just didn't like the class selection CSUs offer for my major. the only exceptions being sfsu and csula, which are both just okay, imo.

Yeah Burerre... may be you should add in Political Science for CSU requirement as recommended.

Anyways, for CSUs, you need to have at least 4 "golden eggs":
1. First year English
2. Critical Thinking
3. Speech
4. Transferable Math (College algebra or above)

together with 60+ units also with as many lower division courses for your major as possible.

Then: 2.0+ GPA gonna get you into most CSUs

Not to hate on CSU's but If your posting on this forum, you obviously care about your academic career, so why would you even consider a CSU? I am not authority on the subject but having lived in Socal all my life, holding several jobs etc..from what I gather a degree from a CSU is hardly a competitive edge in job applications etc. Once again.. I am no expert so please maybe someone could shed some light on this for me Thanks.

CSU's are good for vocational degrees such as education and engineering. Other than that, they aren't very great.

It depends on which CSU. Some top-level CSU's grant more prestigious degrees than UC's.

anyone know what provisional admissions means? i was just checking my admissions status for fall 06 and have now got accepted to all 8 schools. though i know CSU's are looked down upon here on ths board, people have various situations and circumstances to going to a CSU since there's hundreds of thousands of students in the CSU system. very surprising since my gpa wasn't that great at around 2.5, though ive heard SDSU and CSULB were more selective compared to other CSU's. like i mentioned earlier, of course i'd prefer to go to a UC, but previously attended another CSU and just assumed it would be more difficult for the units to transfer over and havent been doingthe IGETC transfer pattern. anyways, thanks for all of your help

provisional means they can revoke your admissions if you do poorly after you're accepted. Just don't slack off too much and you should be fine.

okay thanks. what if i'm not taking any classes during the spring semester, but will finish up my prereq during the summer session instead? could that affect my admissions status for next fall 06?
