Any current CU students have AT&T cell service?

I currently have T-Mobile and am very satisfied with it here in San Diego. I'm gonna be switching to a new carrier soon and from what it looks like Verizon and AT&T are the best for use @ Cornell.

Everyone's saying Verizon is better, but I just really intensely dislike Verizon - their rates, their phone selection, features, etc. - and I'd really prefer to go with AT&T.

Basically - does AT&T work at Cornell? In the dorms? In the buildings? Outside? In Collegetown? I'm in Donlon, if that helps any.

Thanks :)

We have ATT. My daughter was in Dickson last year. Reception was spotty at best in her dorm. Everywhere else was fine. She was using a Palm Treo 680 phone if that matters to you.

Get Sprint and roam on Verizon. It's cheaper.

I'm also getting a 23% discount on their simply everything plan for 450 minutes a month + unlimited texting, web, e-mail, etc.

Gotta know how to play zee game.

Ooh. Is the coverage the same (always roaming) or do you sometimes pick up distant Sprint towers?

does it cost extra money when roaming on verizon?

Do not think of going with AT&T.

Verizon has rented space on top of Cornell Buildings for their towers. Hence, Verizon service is excellent on campus.

I have AT&T and I lived on West Campus and had to run down the hallway to get a call. AT&T always charges me more.

I am paying 175 cancellation fee HAPPILY to switch to Verizon.

Sprint is okay around some parts of the campus and cruddy around the others.

The guy on the other side of the phone told me I wouldn't pay anything for roaming. Mainly because Alltel and Sprint has an agreement and Alltel is being bought by Verizon. In addition, the two have always had a similar agreement.

Before you do purchase your phones/plans, let me check it out for a little bit. I'll post something in regards to this, but so far I've had no problems with roaming.

You also don't know which company you're roaming with, but it doesn't really matter. I keep my phone on Sprint so I can receive and send text messages and that's enough for me considering that's all I do. In the event that I have to make a call, I just switch over to roaming with ease.

I think a majority of your calls have to me be made on the Sprint network. I'm planning on doing all my majority calls on the weekends to family.

Their unlimited plan is $99 a month, but no discount applies...and compared to Verizon at 150 a month and ATT at the same, that is a steal.

I'm getting the new Instinct as well.

But as I said, let me fool around with it. Also, try to order over the phone...you have some more pull from what it sounds like.

Does ATT work in Townhouses? What about Central Campus?

i am an international student
i heard that Verizon doesnt give you a SIM Card, just a phone
is that true?
i mean i like my phone and i bought it especially for college
can i get a verizon sim?

snowman1206,
no it's not possible. which is the only reason i dislike verizon. i love switching phones and it's just not possible w/o a sim card

Unfortunately, I've got an iPhone so I'm going to be stuck with AT&T on West Campus... hope reception isn't as bad there as what I've been hearing here.

I got assigned to North Campus.. I heard it's bad there.. So I decided to switch to Verizon.. and I do know what you guys feel about not being able to use the phone that you like.. -___- because we are in the same boat..

My experience is that AT&T works slightly better than Verizon on West. Both work equally well in Collegetown. I don't know about North though -- Verizon is probably better, but not that much better.

I second diehldun. I'll be on West with ATT. Looks like we have two conflicting reports on reception there. Perhaps there's hope?

you have BETTER reception on west with At&T sjar? What building were you in?

I've been in Becker and Cook and the reception is horrible. No bars in the rooms and about 3 or 4 bars outside the building. Verizon had 3 or 4 bars service in the rooms. iPhone users that I have none have said the same thing.

So what, AT&T (iPhone) works well in West, but AT&T (not an iPhone) doesn't?

I'll be on West with AT&T as well; I hope things go well also because I just switched to AT&T from T-mobile and I don't want to have to pay $175 to switch again.

:( !

How is ATT cell phone reception in Townhouses?

I was in Bethe and at one point had both an AT&T and a Verizon phone. Verizon cut out all the time, whereas AT&T was pretty consistent. I guess it's not surprising that there's variation across houses (and probably machines as well).
