Are there any disadvantages to applying to a university just days before the deadline, compared to if you were to apply within the first few days that the applications were open (concerning UCs)? Do UCs evaluate applications based on when it was submitted, so the people who submitted theirs first will get theirs evaluated first?

Really curious as to what method UCs use to read applications!

Not an issue for the UCs, not an issue for most. It is an issue if applying to a rolling admissions college, which is one that sends out decisons as applications are received, and thus if you apply near final date, programs you want may be full or close to full already.

As to reading applications for UCs, what happens before about mid January is the checking to make sure all files are complete and organized properly, and determining if each applicant meets the minimum qualification requirements to be accepted to a UC. Review for admission to particular UCs generally begins after that.

Agree with drusba with one additional note: The only issue in waiting until the last minute with the UCs is the annual crash of the UC application website on the 30th of November. Try not to wait until the 30th for your UC application just to avoid the stress of trying to submit simultaneously with tens of thousands of other applicants.
