If anyone could help direct me with my situation..My son received his acceptance letter today from Mich State and was so excited as he has always dreamed of going there..So with all the excitement he just noticed he is accepted for Spring 2013 NOT Fall 2012.. He is devasted...They say there is a small chance for Fall for him but very unlikely...There is nothing more than him wanting to go to State..He has gotten accepted to many other schools and all their deadlines are coming up for housing and things..Now with a Spring admission they wouldn't even tell us till July 15 if he was lucky enough to be choosen for fall.
How does he go from here?
Has anyone gone through this? Does anyone have any suggestions on who to talk to?
Anything you can suggest? I would truly appreciate any advise you have that could help him..
We have never heard of an acceptance but not till spring...What does he do for Aug-January?
If anyone could find it in your heart to help a parent out who's son has dreamed for this chance for his whole life then he gets accepted but not till spring..
Even if you a reading this at this point I truly appreciate your time and interest.. I believe there has to be someone who could help us..Thank you so much

Can’t offer too much help but he could always take community college credits and transfer them during the Aug-Jan period. I would suggest getting math and physics out of the way if you choose to stay with MSU. LCC is really good about credits transferring to MSU.

Other than that I would say just talk to the admission’s office and good luck.

I’m sorry for the disappointment. So hard to see your kids go through this entire somewhat fickle college admissions process. Maybe he could look at it as a mini “gap year.” I know a girl who took one year off and deliberately planned it out to get life experiences she knew would be hard to squeeze in later. She took an auto repair class, went on a volunteer trip, got a job taking care of peoples horses, etc. Once he gets over the disappointment maybe he would see it as an opportunity to take a short but structured break. Good luck. I hope it all works out.

One of the advantages is that he won’t have to move in on the same day as 7 thousand other freshmen. We moved our son from one dorm to another during winter break and it was great.
