MSU Spring Deferral

Hello there. I applied to MSU just a month and a half ago (very late) with very qualified specs and I was deferred (accepted for the spring semester.) Since I was denied from my #1 choice university I am obviously in a bit of a situation. The portal login a week ago was telling me that I have accepted the offer of spring admission, and would still like to enroll for fall. It now says that MSU is full for fall and I should complete the steps for spring.

"Michigan State University has now reached capacity for the incoming freshman class for Fall Semester 2013. Previously, you confirmed your interest in accepting admission to Spring Semester 2014. We remain excited about you joining us as a freshman in January."

I read online that many people get accepted in mid august. Is this rare that it states it is full now, or do you think I can still get in for the fall. I was a bit scared away that it changed from possible for fall, to full. Hopefully this is normal, and more space usually clears up.

Please don't make this a bashing thread, I understand it was stupid to only apply to the college I had intended on, I don't need to hear it.

Thanks for the help

Not sure if you’ll be able to get in for fall or not, but couldn’t you go to a community college for the fall semester and start in the spring? I know several people who have done that. Less than ideal, but you can save some money. If you end up getting accepted for the fall then you could just un-enroll from the CC.

A few are brought off the waitlist in the fall but I wouldn’t plan on it. The last few years they’ve WAY over-enrolled and didn’t accept anyone after the class was full.

Ghost has a good suggestion. I would try to take some CC classes and transfer. Or work for a semester (you can always quit your job).

Darn. Can you at least confirm that if I were to hear, It’d be in mid august? That is what someone else told me, but if there is less than a 10% chance I will take your advice. Thank you.

Sorry, I have no idea.

Friends kid is in similar situation but unclear:
1). If deferred until Jan 2014, and you GUARANTEED a spot January 14, or does MSU review your application, review those that have dropped out and let you know around December, 2013?
2). If you accept MSU for Jan 2014, and then go to a CC or other college, are you still a Freshman or must you reapply as a “Transfer Student” ??

All is very confusing, and very unclear.

MSU should be more clear

If anyone knows the answers please let me know

MSU Admissions Office was asked these questions, and danced around the question not sure if the wrong person answered or if it is that “up in the air”

If you attend a post undergrad school (post high school) college, must you then re apply to MSU as a transfer? Hence if you attend a CC, you are really a transfer student not a Freshman, correct? Has anyone received a straight answer from MSU and are you 100% guaranteed admission in January 2014, or is it “when we look at all things such as openings, other applicants, etc”.

Would really appreciate any input.

Thanks

I was original admitted to MSU for spring 2013. I recieved a phone call August 9th offering me fall admission. I had a few days to make my decision and pay my enrollment deposit (it was reduced due to short notice).
Don’t rely on getting that phone call its not guaranteed. Stay positive.
