Any hope left?

My application is still under review and I just feel like giving up since everyone that I know has been accepted somewhere and such. My last chances in attending a university is cal poly pomona and fullerton. Do you think I have a chance?

GPA: 3.07
SATs: 1260
Major: English
First Generation

this is a musical theater thread …perhaps you want to check on the regular college major threads.

sorry this is my first time using this, how do i go about this or deleting this thread? embarrased

We just started distributing this info:

Please Note: As of Fall 2010, because of the state budget crisis the CSU system has changed its admission policies concerning transfer students. Students who have taken the majority of their course work at a Orange County community college (and only community college) will be admitted with a GPA of 2.0 and above. Those students transferring from any other institutions, or community colleges outside of Orange County will need a higher GPA (in excess of 3.5 most likely) and will probably be wait listed for admission. All prospective students will have to meet the university admission requirements, and space in your major department must be available for admittance for all-non Orange County community college transfers.

Wow, okay. Fullerton is getting WHACK :).

Btw, why do they accept students with 2.0GPA just because they took a majority of their classes at an Orange County college? :[ Makes those of us who were educated elsewhere and much higher GPAs very sad.

I have a 3.65GPA when I applied, and currently a 3.6GPA after all is said and done. They will waitlist even me to get accepted so the excess Orange County students with 2.0GPAs can get in before me? Seems very unfair :[.

The low GPA for Orange County college students to transfer in is due to the mission statement and land-grant status of CSU schools, both of which focus on servicing our local community first, then opening the door to other interested students. They didn’t consider the fact that we are the only CSU with a BFA program…with budget cuts as dire as they have been, that can’t be their concern (keeping the school open and running as effectively as possible is primary now).

I think that they are setting such a high GPA threshold for non-OC transfers as a method to prioritize the overwhelming amount of students interested in transferring in this year. They simply cannot accommodate all the interested students without hiring more teachers, which they can’t afford to do (they will likely be RELEASING part-time faculty again next year to make up the deficit between what it costs to operate and the diminished state funds given to us). Sorry the news isn’t better…this depression/recession is really hitting students and schools VERY hard.

I was put on the waitlist.
wow.

I should of called. I hear that people who call get in. maybe it’s an urban legend, maybe they were always going to waitlist me. this is, sad. :[

I encourage you to call and let them know you are still very interested in the school. Ask to speak to the Admissions Director, if they give you the opportunity and explain your background and level of interest. It also might help if you can ask for an appointment to see the school. If you are on the waitlist, I think it is important to show your interest.

Sadly, the waitlist is predetermined as I understand via GPA grades.

So it goes from 3.69GPA down (apparently they only accepted 3.7GPA+ transfer students from outside the OC). I think I may make an appointment though, or something. I live 3+hours away though so :.

Ozzy: Just thinking about you and wondering about your progress toward admission. Any news? Sending well-wishes your way.

Still on the waitlist. I called yesterday and just asked in general what was going on.

They told me that I should just turn in my transcripts and that their records show I have a 3.68GPA so once they start using the waitlist they’ll contact me in a few weeks.

They also basically implied (or maybe I just hoped :)) that I had a good chance of being accepted after all, since they’ll choose from 3.69 to 3.00, and I am at 3.68 so pretty darn close.

But that still means I have to wait, and then find an apartment (hopefully close to campus). Top of my list right now is “Montclaire Apartments,” which is basically the only place that has 100% positive reviews online and is within walking distance.

Terrific! I heard that they aren’t getting as many students signed up for the mandatory orientations as they expected, so there may be more room than initially anticipated.

On the apartments, you might go to the Department itself and look on the callboards for people looking for roommates. Another resource is the facebook CSUF “theatre and dance” or “musical theatre” or “bfa” page… Actually, the Montclair is good, but they may not have openings. You can also check at the Nutwood East Apartments (right across the street from the department) or the Moonraker (just across the 57, and nice studios).

Best wishes - crossing my fingers for you.

Lets hope so! I would hate to lose a year of my education to budget cuts!

Other choices I have in mind are Waterton Apartments and Piccadilly Square, though once I visit Fullerton (I live in Santa Barbara County) I’ll have to visit all apartments because so far I’ve been just basing my decisions over online reviews rather than first hand inspections.

By the way, I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but my major is in Business Administration with a concentration in Entertainment Management/minor radio-television-film. Though I was quite the theatre kid back in elementary school, and my high school won the best one act play competition in Texas (I went to all performances :)), so I might be visiting the theatre department more than most!

Terrific! We love our “theatre empathetic” friends on campus!!! I’ll hope you’ll come by and introduce yourself at some point. Like to put a face to your name.

One other thought when here shopping: go to the Residence Life office. They should have a list of the closest apartments, rental rates, and possibly recommendations.

:)

They denied me wrongfully. I had to email this to admissions with a copy of my unofficial transcripts. If you can help me out at all I’d sure appreciate it  Not sure what a teacher can do for a applicant but worth a shot posting it here too!

I was denied admissions due to lack of credits.

I was told by Megan from Admissions that I had 55 credits, but this total did not count the last transcript from Spring semester from Hancock College (an additional 10 credits, bringing the total above the required 60 to 65).

The Spring transcripts, if it includes the Golden 4, is due tomorrow, June 25. My Golden 4 have already been submitted, so the due date for these transcripts are due “ASAP and no later than 1 month after the start of school” according to MyCSUF.

So I was denied prematurely for lack sending in a transcript which is not due yet (and still unavailable at this time). Admissions advised me to send in an unofficial transcript to appeals. If there is anything else I can do to fix this problem please call --**** or email me at BrentBurk@gmail.com

Fullerton is really, really bugging me! :D:|
And they better repeal this decision or so help me! …I have no idea what I’d do. Run to the papers? :X

I GOT ACCEPTED!    :D

I GOT ACCEPTED!    :D

I GOT ACCEPTED!    :D

now the fun begins.

Sorry, Ozzy. Sounds like you’ve been through the ringer with Admissions.

What we’ve been telling our Theatre students is this: most schools have transcripts/grades available to you online, so take a screen shot or print it out, bring it in or email it to your contact in A&R (to verify that you have the units/courses needed) and ask for a provisional admission (pending receipt of your final transcripts). That would mean getting official transcripts to them ASAP, or risk losing your provisional admission, but it’s better than nothing.

Sorry I can’t help more.

sorry I couldn’t edit my post. they fixed it within the day! and accepted me!

I am now a Fullerton Titan!

…now I just got to deal with the Veterans Affairs office (using dad’s post-911 GI Bill benefits)! That should be fun! Hopefully they’ll let me register for classes early.

Yay! Congrats!!!
